View Full Version : What competition?
Just for talks, what's your .40 and on what competition have you used it?
I have only shot IDPA with mine (http://www.glocktalk.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1405703), but hope to try some other comps this summer.

Going to my first local match tonight. Will try to use my 9mm conversion if they let me, but have my .40 barrel ready for my G27.

I just use my .40's in my local IDPA style matches, IDPA like in rules and all, just not "official".
i have g35 i occasionally use in uspsa limited-10 division.
for uspsa production, and idpa ssp, i use g34 9mm.

I use my G22 in Israeli Combat Sport Shooting.
For IDPA I use my carry pistol, G23.
I've shot IDPA with a Glock 22 and 27 and I've shot a GSSF regional match, in am. subcompact, with a 27.
If I had to pick one round to own, it would be the .40.
G35 (loaded minor) - IDPA - SSP and ESP, USPSA Production, Steel Challenge, Knock Down Steel, Action Steel (Pro Am style)
(I have shot Major for Limited and L10, but prefer the heavier STI for this)
STI (wide body) build by Millennium Custom - USPSA Limited and L-10, Knock Down Steel
STI (single stack) home build - USPSA Limited-10 and Single Stack, IDPA ESP, Steel Challenge, Knock Down Steel, Action Steel.
Admittedly, the 9mm is better for the steel challenge as it can be downloaded even further when there is no minimum power factor, so it's more common for me to use the 9s for this. However, at the "minor" loading (IDPA and USPSA Production), I feel the .40 shoots softer than the 9mm. However, it does cost a bit more to shoot even when reloading, and bullets always go up in price, never down.
My .02.

IDPA Marksman remains a challenge for me with my G27. I achieved Marksman with my G17 about a month ago, and have been trying since, with the OEM .40 barrel in my G27. I'm getting closer, but recovery time is longer than with 9mm.
I'm finding I get quite a few "keyholes" using WWB 165 gr. May have 3 or 4 during a 90 round "Classifier".

I used to shoot mainly 40, and used two G23s (Gen 2 and Gen3) & a 40 Hi Power for most of my local club IDPA matches; and back when, a G24 a few times. We also ran local combat matches where those pistols did well. The G23 and Hi Power both have their own strong points.
I started IDPA in January this year. My G22 was the best candidate and I improved my shooting and SD abilities and mindset pretty quickly. As I took to the sport I picked op a new G34 and a better holster. I'm still moving up and for my 9/7 birthday I got a Lee reloading setup that I'm about to load my first 9mm 'match' rounds through. Project 1 - equal or better my current 9mm competition ammo. Then SD 40 - then 223 / 5.56. After that...
Onward!
