Last night I installed new carrier bearings, races, seals, o-rings, brake pags and fresh grease on my ATV. It was easy and fun.

I thought I might follow that up tonight with reinstalling some auxiliary reverse lights I'd had on it some years back...

Tony, those trail 70's were cool; yours is looking good.

I'm working on a way to blow my garage up without any of the debris landing in my yard. (Pretty messy garage I've got)

1. Making rippers for the back of a small dozer. Shanks are fabbed up and have the teeth mounted. Main frame is cut, need to make gussets still. Next will be welding it all together.

2. Restoring a Stihl 051 chainsaw. All the bead blasting is done and parts are painted. Waiting on a couple of bearings to come in the mail and then a better than new saw will roar to life.

3. Making a stump burl clock. So far all I've done is surface it on the router bridge. Next I'll glass the back, hollow the middle, forge and attach the numbers and then apply the finish before installing the movement.

Over the past week I've been working on my '09 Night Rod Special. I decided back in December to put her away and do some winter mods, mainly taller bars and a larger fairing. Something different, and to improve comfort as the stock riding position can be described as a monkey humping a football...

I was lazy (and cold), so I let the parts collect dust for 3 months. 10" Lick's Z-Bars, Rifle Roadster Fairing kit, extended (custom) cables, black hand levers, Lick's mirrors, and a few other things. I internally wired the bars with all the electrical after lengthening everything for a super clean appearance, and the brake/clutch/throttle cables will be almost invisible as well. Just waiting on a custom brake and clutch cable and she should be ready for the open road! Also plan on some custom paint this coming week...

Before:
(2" rise drag bars/useless mini fairing (both factory stock)

Why did you ruin your bike?

Wow. Ummm... Function over form. :wavey:

I rode over 8,000 miles last year in less than 5 months. I frequently ride up to 300 miles in a day. I was going to get rid of the bike because it was so uncomfortable. My elbows and traps were killing me due to the riding position. I was seriously contemplating trading for a Street Glide. The problem is that I love the bike. I love how reliable it is, and how it actually moves when you crack the throttle! So I simply changed the bars and fairing and now it's 1000% more comfortable and everyone who's seen it in person complements on how good it looks, actually... You're implying I ruined the "look" of the bike? I agree with you, it did look better with lower bars. But a more functional machine that I'll ride every day > a better looking bike that's a garage queen.

I got my SYE kit today for my YJ.:wavey:

How is your new motor holding up Kevin?

The Jeep is running great. Earlier this week the blower for the AC quit working but that just turned out to be a loose plug at the firewall. At the end of last year after a weekend of wheeling, I enlarged the hole for the track bar mount and put a bigger bolt in to tighten things up. After installing a H&T SYE and removing an ancient t-case drop, I had to install new motor motor mounts / trans mount to keep the fan from rubbing the radiator.

Pics of the SYE and wheeling trip at http://www.jeepforum.com/forum/f177/kevin108s-2000-xj-build-867428/index17.html#post12499167 The built TJ/JK guys are always surprised at what my stocker on street tires will do. I don't always mention the rear locker. :whistling:

I need to install some front axle u-joints before I do anymore wheeling but yeah, after nearly 3 years of wrenching and a couple grand in parts, it's finally starting to get reliable.

A couple weeks ago I towed our two ATVs for the first time since building my bastard pack. Night and day difference. The factory leaf pack is way too soft but a pack and a half is just about right. I carry tools and a cooler with me virtually always. It would probably be too stiff for most people but with my default load, it rides fine.

Now that they're charging an exorbitant admission fee for the NC beaches just south of me, I'm not sure how much sand wheeling I'll be doing. Carova is still free but I see them getting overloaded with people like me who refuse to pay such a ridiculous fee to access what is essentially a public park. Not sure how it will all shake out yet.

The ATVs sat almost all of last year. A TV show I work with occasionally building props and finding vehicles needed a couple ATVs for an episode a couple months back. I started wrenching on ours then. My Scrambler 500 has needed a whole host of hard parts. I need to go in the carb one again on my girl's Trail Boss 330. It won't idle or start when warm. My buddy Neil that introduced me to riding had gotten rid of his Scrambler a few years back. Last month he bought an 03 and has been getting it fixed up. We've both been chasing parts and time to work them out but we're getting close to getting in some serious riding again.

Like last night, I keep falling into this catch 22 of having to fix something to fix something though. A few weeks ago my air compressor died, so I couldn't blow out the carb when I had it apart. No big deal, I'll throw the ATV on the trailer and take it to Dad's. The trailer sat and a tire went flat. Pull the Jeep around and plug in my 12v compressor. Pump air fruitlessly into the tire that has broken the bead. Jack up the trailer and shoot oil everywhere because the plug has fallen out of the fill hole on the top of my floor jack. Go to get the 4-way out of the toolbox in the back of the Jeep. Get the 4-way, remove the trailer wheel and tighten a ratchet strap around the tire to force the sidewall out. Successfully seat the bead and fill the tire. Struggle to remove the ratchet strap that now has the tension of the ratcheting mechanism and the air pressure of the filled tire. Nearly get hurt releasing the strap. Reinstall the wheel, put 4-way back in toolbox, carry toolbox to the back of the Jeep and pinch the **** out of myself with the lid. Give up on going to Dad's or doing anything else bug enjoying "cold compresses".

He spent the big bucks. I went the cheap route on my XJ and got a "hack and tap" from DirtboundOffroad.com The extra wheelbase on the Cherokees gives you more options for a rear driveshaft. On stock to 4.5" of lift, you can use a stock FRONT double-cardan driveshaft at the rear. One of the best mods I've done to my little XJ.

That's a cool trick. On my TJ I've lived with a 3inch front 2 inch bb rear lift for the last 8 months or so without an sye. I had to drop my tc about 3/4" after I had the 8.8 installed. The 8.8 is what started most of my vibes, I'm still pretty low though. :wavey:

We recently moved and I ended up with a crapton more garage space. Last couple of weekends I put in 13 or 14 cabinets, this weekend countertops and remount my presses and such so I can get reloading again.

Also have to get all my turkey stuff organized and get ready to hunt. And have to mount sling and pod on new .30-378 so I can try it out with a cheapie scope before I go drop real coin on the real deal.

How can a Touareg brake job be $2000? That is just scary.

-Dana

Just for fun, I had my girl ask her dealer what they would charge to replace the timing belt and water pump on her 04 Forenza. They wanted $700.

I got the parts from Rock Auto for around $60 and as first-timers, it took me and Dad about 5 hours. For his help and using his tools, all he wanted was a sausage biscuit for breakfast.

It's all Brembo stuff....price from dealer was $2700(with labor included), with parts bought online $829, and 3 hours of my time

You scare the crap outta me. Do the t-regs have the 6 piston calipers or just 4?

The Jeep is running great. Earlier this week the blower for the AC quit working but that just turned out to be a loose plug at the firewall. At the end of last year after a weekend of wheeling, I enlarged the hole for the track bar mount and put a bigger bolt in to tighten things up. After installing a H&T SYE and removing an ancient t-case drop, I had to install new motor motor mounts / trans mount to keep the fan from rubbing the radiator.

The built TJ/JK guys are always surprised at what my stocker on street tires will do. I don't always mention the rear locker.

I need to install some front axle u-joints before I do anymore wheeling but yeah, after nearly 3 years of wrenching and a couple grand in parts, it's finally starting to get reliable.

:rofl::rofl::rofl:

I hate days when nothing goes right.

I split my TC all excited to install the new tail shaft and found some parts that neded to be replaced.
So here again I am waiting on parts.

Last weekend I installed a BDS lift and can't drive over 25 due to bad vibes. I can't wait to get it back together and try it out!

I was always impressed with the Scramblers but for now my quad days are over. I had a few fast ones over the years but my body doesn't like the beating anymore.

Glad to hear your XJ is doing well for you. I checked out your thread; it looks nice.:wavey:

He spent the big bucks. I went the cheap route on my XJ and got a "hack and tap" from DirtboundOffroad.com The extra wheelbase on the Cherokees gives you more options for a rear driveshaft. On stock to 4.5" of lift, you can use a stock FRONT double-cardan driveshaft at the rear. One of the best mods I've done to my little XJ.

It was only $200; I didn't do the Tom Woods DS. I went to the junk yard and got a DS with the double-cardan for $25.

Once it is back together and I can get my measurements I will take it to the local Drive Line guy and have him shorten and balance it for me. Not sure what he will charge yet.

:wavey:

I want a 8.8!

Congrats!

Don't have any yet. I'm not very computer savvy.

The piece is scaled down to eight feet long to fit a wall in the living room.

To get into the room it has to be in three pieces, two ends and middle carcase. Then assembled in place.

$600 in Quarter Sawn Oak so far.

Alright, finally got around to tearing down my girl's Trail Boss 330 to check out the carb. You have to pull the front plastic, the breather box and the gas tank to get to the carb on a Gen 3 Polaris machine so you have to be ready to jump through a few hoops. Hers is slightly simpler than my 05 Scrammy though.

Anyway, the spring #6 was balled up inside the lid #4 and the needle #30 was lodged sideways in the diaphragm slide #7 instead of going down into the jet block #5. I don't know how the thing ran at all! Starts right up and idles great now. I'm about to reinstall the front plastic and grill guard/front rack now.

Gee, most of you guys make me look like a slacker this weekend.

I had to put a new fuel pump on my TWO year old mower. Had to actually buy a tool to work the tool that came with it. (You need to put a snap ring on two tabs in the i/o tubes to open it up to install the i/o fuel line connectors)

Hadn't started my 22 old year garden tractor in a year and a half. Had to charge the battery and clean and lube the throttle and choke cable, levers and attachments to get it to work.

Then I had to put a new water purge valve on my air tank to put air in my garden tractor wagon so I could take the 300# of sand out of my truck bed..

I've really enjoyed seeing all the various projects in this thread... cool and impressive all. Not much of a gearhead myself, but I do have a 2 1/2 car garage outfitted as a wood & metal shop. My current project is buiding some cabinets for my man cave / gun room / home office. Making a total of eight cabinets; three drawer banks, two two-drawer file cabinets, a cabinet with a pull-out shelf for my paper shredder, a computer cabinet, and a blind corner cabinet for storing bulk items. Plenty of storage for papers, holsters, mags, cleaning supplies, and various non-gun items in my collection, and the counter top will be a great work area for cleaning, reloading, etc.

Got all the plywood machined for the cabinet boxes and am currently working on drawers. First pic shows 12 of my 20 drawers assembled... in the background are the parts for the four file drawers. Second pic shows one of the drawer banks I assembled as a prototype; behind that are all the parts for the rest of the cabinet boxes. The drawers, BTW, are made of maple, and will be fitted with red oak fronts when complete.

Coming along slowly, but a fun learning experience.

Your XJ still running good?

Yep, it's still running good! I've got just over 7,000 miles on the swapped-in engine from back in June of last year. Scored some free Rancho RS5000 shocks a while back and was able to bottom them out with 2" of lift so I added another inch. 31s are a good fit on OEM rims. I'm in serious need of new tires but Treadwright hasn't put the 31" MT/R clones back in stock for a while. I have two but the other two are proving elusive! I may just try to sell the two I have and buy 4 of the BFG AT clones although I really hope I don't have to do that.

Added an IRO H&T SYE like a year ago. I've got some 4° shims for the rear to install to correct the pinion angle for the double-cardan rear driveshaft.

Our honeymoon is early next month but when we get back I'm going to get an IRO adjustable track bar for it as I'm sitting with the front axle about 1/2" over towards the driver's side from the lift and I get occasional death wobble with it.

Bought my wife a 2012 Escape back in early June (http://www.glocktalk.com/forums/showthread.php?p=19063795#post19063795). Her 04 Forenza is currently on loan to her mom but when we get that back, it's going up for sale. We'll take some cash from that to finish outfitting the Escape with a rear receiver and molded floor mats. She doesn't know it yet but I'm going to work getting some JCR sliders for my XJ out of that as well. :whistling:

This was last month at a Jeep club meet up.
