to the Bac,Okie and a hundred others and ordered an SR 1911. First 1911 and just had to get in the club. I'll post when it gets here. I didn't even like 1911's until I started hanging out on Glock Talk a couple years ago. How does that happen?

It's a great value in a 1911. I saw two on the rack at our local Sportsman's Wearhouse over the weekend.

I was hanging out at the LGS today and we were talking about the SR1911. I have the only one the store manager has been able to get. The other stores around here haven't been able to get any either.

Everyone should have at least one 1911. It is to the semi-auto what the '73 Peacemaker was to revolvers.

I am lucky enough to be a LE officer in California so I was able to purchase the SR1911 even though it hasn't been approved yet. I have carried a Glock for nearly 20 years both on and off duty and have never had a single complaint about it, but I had a streak of patriotism last year and became obsessed with getting a 1911.

Being a single income family, I couldn't bring myself to spend $1200-$1700 for a gun so when Ruger introduced the AMERICAN MADE 1911 I knew my patience had been rewarded.

In short, the gun is AWESOME. It is extremely beautiful with tight tolerances and some added features you'd normally pay extra for. One of my department rangemasters shot the gun and said that controlled pairs with my stock SR1911 felt as good as his nearly $2000 Gold Cup!! The trigger is a bit gritty out of the box, with too much take up for my tastes, but after about 400 rounds, the trigger has smoothed nicely and the trigger overtravel is adjustable.

As for accuracy, at 10 yards I can usually put 20 slow fire rounds through a hole you can cover with your fist.

I ran into some feeding issues with Ruger supplied 8 round magazine. I found that when using duty ammo, Win 230grn Ranger T Series, the gun reliably jammed on round #7 everytime. My department armorer thinks this may be related to the fact the ammo is REALLY hot. With ball ammo, there was never a hickup. Ruger has already exchanged the 8 round magazine, but I haven't tested it with duty ammo yet.

In closing, while I am far from a 1911 expert, I can honestly say I think Ruger hit the mark with this gun and you'd be perfectly happy with the SR1911. There has been some discussion about the fact the Ruger frames are cast instead of forged, but I remember a lot of so called "experts" bagging on polymer frames would never last up under repeated use.......Glock still running strong Mr Expert!
