We need a President who is more in touch with the American people. I know of one Republican candidate who has promised to cut his own salary as POTUS down to less than 40k/year if elected President.

In that vein, there is also another GOP candidate who refused to accept a salary during his previous employment as governor -- and also paid for all of his own personal and political travels...

Why would he want to vacation in Colombia?

Getting it from the source?

Cool will he do the same as President? Is he currently accepting Secret Service protection on our dime because the other candidate refuses to do so as he believes he should be responsible for his own protection.

I believe the politician in question started receiving S.S. protection in Feb., 2012, because he met the requisite criteria of standing in the Primary and the dollar amount being acquired by his campaign. Perhaps the other candidate in question does not meet the requisite criteria for standing in the Primary and/or campaign dollars acquired.

I don't like him either, but that seems like just a friendly, joking remark designed to imply that Colombia is a nicer place than it really is. I imagine any president would say something like that. They rarely go to a country and say, "wow, your country is a real ****hole."

You're right but you still gotta wonder about this clown. I really woudn't be surprised if he was telling the truth.

President or not, that just sounds like a joking remark made by a married man to me. I may dislike him with the intensity of 1,000 suns, but I can't find the need to get angry here...

"Lady Michelle" seems like our generation's Marie Antoinette waiting for her "Let them eat cake" moment. Except with her it'll probably be "The people don't have jobs? Let them go on vacation."

I find the country not much in a "joking" mood. 9% unemployment, 15 million out of work, 47 million on food stamps, and socialism crouching at the door. We need someone that can get to work and help fix the country's problems, not a two-bit comedian.

This seems like a sane analysis.

i agree. it did not strike me as offensive but more politically drivin to please the host country.

i try to be objective and judge politicians equally. would i find the same thing offensive had a pol i agree with and respect said it?

what makes is sensitive are the extravagant and frequent vacations by michelle in the face of a financially suffering public.

Maybe it would be funny if it weren't for the fact that during this historical economic downturn we have spent plenty on Michelle's vacations already.
