Taking cover

Hi Mas,
I was thinking a lot lately about home invasion defense scenarios, and am wondering in a normal home (drywall walls, etc.) where is the best place to take cover and to shield my family? I don't have a basement so that won't work.

Cast iron wood stoves would be nice, but they never seem to be in the right place. Best bet is to scope out your house and pick interdiction points where you'll take cover if there's a home invasion. Then, set up densely backed bookshelves wide enough and tall enough for the largest person in the household to position themselves behind. Most pistol bullets will stop in well under 12 inches of hard packed book material.
