for a single stack. is it a 10 rounder...or do they make a 15/20 round, quality feeding .45 mag for 1911s? i obviously dont care how much it protrudes..just looking for a HD option. thanks.

Wilson Combat and Chip McCormick both have 10 round magazines that are reliable. I would not go with any other 10 round magazine for HD. Don't know of anything higher in a single stack, and I would probably not trust it anyway.

Learn to do quick reloads with your pistol and carry a spare magazine.

If 20 rounds of 45acp do not solve the problem, you need a rifle or shotgun.

You might want to invest in a SBR of some sort.

I have often worried about the round capacity of a 1911 for home defense... I came to the conclusion that 8 shots will "fight" my way to my AR15. A pistol is a secondary weapon.

Do you know of any residential shootouts, not involving law enforcement, that have needed more than 8 rounds (even assuming you can't reload)?

True. That is my point. If 8 rounds isnt enough you need your rifle.

I had a few 15 round single stack magazines that I helped sell for my friend's Widow. I never tried them, but they didn't look like something I would trust, though could be fun at the range. They were LONG. If you had to go prone, you'd have to shoot ghetto with these things! :wow:

Tripp makes a quality 10 rounder as well.

The words "1911a1" and "Hi-Cap" just don't belong together IMHO. If you need more then 7+1 or 8+1 then you probably need to give some of those "Plastic Fantastic" pistols a look. I figure that if feel perfectly comfortable with my 5 shot 642 for EDC/CCW those extra couple rounds of 45acp give me more then enough comfort for Home Defense. Besides, it's not all that hard to change a mag in a 1911.

Personally, I'd disagree.
