Colt's are hard to find.
STI makes some nice ones.
Springfield has a Target model.

And then there are some semi-customs in 9mm as well.

The only 9mm Colt is making right now is the subcompact model. Of course there are used Colt 9mms running around but they are hard to find and generally not cheap.

I had a SA 1911 Target in 9mm which was very reliable but would not "group" better than ca 4+ inches at 50ft. I sold it and purchased a Dan Wesson PM-9 - 1 inch groups at 50 ft. My vote is for Dan Wesson. I also have the DW Pointman in 40 S&W and 45 ACP - all excellent shooters.
A friend shoots an STI Trojan in 9omm - pretty reliable so fay but it is a blued gun whereas the DW PM-9 is a stainless finish.

Just wondering.... Is a RIA an option? Get the tactical model and have lots of money leftover to play with regarding upgrades and ammo.

Just a thought.

I own a Para 18-9. I've run about 2000 rounds thru it with no problems.

"PARA" does any like this brand ??

My Para LTC 9mm is the most accurate 1911 I have ever shot and the list includes Wilson Combat and Dan Wesson pistols. I did have to have some minor work done on this pistol to get the reliability where it needed to be. It runs perfectly now.

My Para Carry 9 is almost as accurate as the LTC. It has been rock solid reliable from day 1.

I used to shoot lots of USPSA matches and saw lots of people using Para high capacity 1911 pistols with no problems.

STI builds some of the best 9mm 1911 available now for the money.

The DW Guardian is a heck of a shooter and is a blast as a range gun and being a commander with a bobtail, it makes for a great CC gun as well. I shoot mine extremly well.

Depends on your funds, STI Spartan, and Trojan are great offerings, if you can swing more coin, there's a few great semi custom shops, Baer may be the best value of those.

Not knocking any other brands because there are a few great 1911's chambered in 9mm but I am partial to the STI Trojan.

Correct, it had intermittent failures to extract that were resolved with a quick deburr and polishing of the chamber. It looked to be a small burr missed at some point in the manufacture of the barrel and was quickly resolved by my smith. I'm confident the factory could have fixed it if I had gone that way.

Dan Wesson PM-9. $1450 and quality that compares favorably with guns costing much, much more. Plus zero MIM.

I got to handle the RIA plain grade 9mm recently. For it's price I could only find one flaw to it and that was the grips were a bit thicker and bulkier than I like, but that is probably one of the easieat things to fix on a 1911. I think as a stcok "no frills" model it has a lot going for it.

For a range 1911 in 9mm the RIA is without a doubt the best bang for the buck out there IMO.
