I got a new S&W Shield . I am a "die hard" Glock fan and I love Gaston Glock's pistol design . I have carried his design in the G22 for 15 yrs now and it has served me well and I will continue to carry it . I just got a new S&W Shield and just wanted to show you guys. When I am not at work I carry a G30 with a flush fitting mag and here it is with the M&P Shield. WOW this thing is quite thin ! I am and always will be a Glock fan but this M&P is quite a nice pistol . I am not sure why Glock has'nt got on the band wagon , I know they have their own ways of doing things , but this M&P is a great pistol. I sure hope Glock does it and does it better than the Gen 4 thing. With all the failures and such , hopefully things will go good. If they do I'll buy it in a heartbeat . Here is my G30 with my new M&P Shield.

Congrats on the new Shield. I'm still breaking mine in, but it's done really well so far. The thing for me now is trying to locate magazines at a decent price!

Enjoy the new S&W!

The Shield certainly looks thin compared to the Glock. And tempting.

I'll most likely get one at some point too.

I just bought the M&P 9c about three months ago, and I love it. It's the same size as the Shield, but about a half inch thicker and heavier.

My single stack micro is a Kahr MK40 Elite.
It's hardly thicker than a deck of cards throws 40s.
A super sweet, reliable, high quality pistol.
But 5+1 just gives me the heebie jeebies.
I carry it as a backup to my G27.
I can see something like that as a pocket pistol.
But on a belt I want and carry double stack.

Anyone have pics of it next to a g26? A g30 is a fatty even compared to a 26.

G30 vs G26 - You can have the fat sister. I put a 357 barrel in my G27.
Plus gun and two high cap spare mags. Filled with 230 vs 125 gr bullets.
And that cow of a sister weighs just like she looks - LOL.

Got one this week. Haven't had a chance to shoot it as I'm focused on the Dayton GSSF Match next month, but I look forward to shooting it after the match. I have dried fired it and I am impressed by the trigger more than the first M&P I have. If S&W does improve the triggers on all M&Ps' as good as the Shield Glock is going to have more to worry about.

I think they improved the triggers on all the new M&Ps 'cause I love the trigger on my 9c.

I also have a pocket pistol, a Ruger LCP .380, as well as the M&P 9c, so I don't really need a Shield. Just want one.

A lot of people seem to do that on GT when they find a gun they like better then a Glock. Maybe they are afraid of offending the Glock gods if they don't pay some homage to "perfection"

"Half the mag capacity" ? Compared to what ? A Glock 26 holds 10+1.The Shield is 7+1 or 8+1,depending on which mag you use. That's not "half the mag capacity".Do the math.

Compared to a Glock 19 15 + 1 = 16. 16 divided by 2 equals 8. Do the math. Still haven't shown why this gun is "superior" to GLOCKS. If I'm only going to have 8 rounds I want it to be in .45 If you're going to say a product is superior you better come with some facts to back it up.

I think they improved the triggers on all the new M&Ps 'cause I love the trigger on my 9c.

I also have a pocket pistol, a Ruger LCP .380, as well as the M&P 9c, so I don't really need a Shield. Just want one.

I do hope so as I just ordered a M&P in 9MM with the thumb safeties we old 1911 type guys like, based on how good the trigger was on my Shield. My first M&P in 9MM was terrible in the trigger department. This was before Apex parts were available and I sold it, but I'm willing to try it again.

Meek and Puny, compare it to a similar Glock and it's 50%.

If it is all about capacity, then lets all stuff a 50 round drum magazine under our waistband... There's a give and take depending on what is needed, and the shield serves a need of being very stealthy yet having 9 rounds ready for action..

Hey sharkbait, why would you compare a G19 to a subcompact sidearm specifically design to hidden carry... :dunno:

sharkbait22
04-29-2012, 08:11
Are you saying the G19 wasn't designed for CC? I carry one every day. It is also the most common carried pistol in the world. Somebody here stated that the Shield was a "superior" pistol to that of Glock. Glock makes a lot of pistols if you want to compare them all we can. This individual also has not come back to state WHY the Shield is a superior firearm. If you are of small stature and can't conceal a compact 9mm then the shield is the gun for you. However that doesn't make is a superior firearm. Just smaller.

Now your comparing a larger pistol to the Shield. You must be a "spray & pray" shooter.More rounds equals a better gun.Maybe you should carry a Glock 17 with 33 round mags.

04-29-2012, 08:42
Now your comparing a larger pistol to the Shield.

Arn't all GLOCKS larger? :brickwall: Single stack 9mm's are nothing but a fashion statement/fad. Just so you know I carry a single stack gun. But it sure as hell isn't a 9mm. The biggest advantage of having a 9mm is higher capacity. You take that away and there is no point in the 9mm platform IMO. Go on please continue to tell me why the Shield is such a "superior" gun?

I am getting a shield for pocket carry in my cargo pants. I normally carry a beretta 92 IWB. I've had abdominal pain and other issues for four months no. I cannot carry IWB. Pocket carry is all I can do.

I rented a shield yesterday. I shot it better than my Kahr pm9. Probably 25-30% less recoil with the shield than a kahr.

I have pocket carried a double stack 9mm once upon a time. It is not comfortable.

So, for some uses, the shield IS better than your beloved Glock. But of course, you will never admit this.

Trust me, I would rather have my beretta 92. However, for it's size, that Shield is impressive... More so than other guns that size.

As for the comment that anyone has made in regard to Glock being inferior, I will disagree because I feel Glock has nothing left to prove and is what all others are judged by... The S&W is doubtfully superior in general, and the place I feel that it's better is in a concealability issue.. If I were to compare the S&W to a Glock then it would have to be a 26 rather than a 19... The 26 still holds a little more ammo, but it's also not as concealable which comes back to my statement about it's give and take depending on what the carriers needs are... When Glock comes out with a single stack 9/40, this will be a different discussion..

A friend of mine that got me into Glocks has totally switched to the S&W M&P line. He was one of these guys who never was happy with a Glock grip.
He is not a novice by a long shot. He loves the M&P's.
By his word alone I am wanting to look one of these Shields over.
I read somewhere they are rated for +P ammo.
Being a 9mm shooter thats why I loved Glocks. Using +P ammo and boosting up the power with heavier bullets. I want to try one of these.

I've shot about 200 rounds through mine with no cleaning straight outta the box. I have run 2 mags of Speer Gold Dots & 50 rounds of 9mm NATO....not a hint of failure! This gun is a GAME CHANGER for slim CCW! I added hogue jr.'s b/c I like the palm swell/texture. Perfect feel...

Just looked at S&W's site, at the Shield, in .40.
.95" wide.

Looks promising for concealed carry. MSRP at $449.00. That's less than Glock's MSRP.
Now, will they discount as Glock does????

I wonder if the local FFL can get one for less????
:dunno: I'm gonna find out, though.

165 gr HST in the .40 ain't nuthin' to sneeze at.

I wonder if they'll eventually come out with the Shield in .45 acp????
Now, I'm really interested!!!

I know others got their's at discounted prices but the only place in my area had them for $447 ,,,,but I got a 10% discount for being Law Enforcement . SO it worked out great. I hated to buy it right off the bat but so far it is working just fine ! I rememebr when I bought a brand new CZ P-07 Duty and it ate up it's guide rod , it would not eject it's mags and the frame separated from the metal  And I am a CZ guy too !

I don't suppose you have a cite for this? Just curious as Glock does not seem to release production numbers. Just curious if there are any facts to back up this claim.

I believe that we will see the .40 Shield around the end of the month or beginning of next based on what a S&W rep said and showed us today. We were allowed to shoot and evaluate the 9mm Shield today. Most everyone seemed to like it.

I finally got the chance to see the new Shield. It was a bit heavier than I thought it would be but not bad at all. Since I want a sub-compact in .357sig that I can get all my fingers on the Shield seems just fine, so it occurred to me to wait until the .40S&W Shield is available. If there isn't a factory .357sig or aftermarket barrel available then maybe a 135-grain JHP in .40S&W will fit the bill.

Update: After thinking about it I decided to forego buying a .40S&W Shield. If Smith makes one in .357sig then I'll go for it; I just don't need another caliber to feed and I have no qualms about 9mm adequacy. I've got a decent stash of 9mm and .357sig premium self-defense JHP ammo and with the recent big jump in cost I don't need the extra expense.
