I recently acquired two 1911A1s from my great uncle. One is a Colt in great shape and all original parts. The other is an Ithaca with "aftermarket" grips. I would like to replace those with replica grips that look like the originals. Where is the best place to find these?

phi, If your grips come with unit paint on them, take a photo or two attached before you scrub off the offending paint, eh? Some kinda like that authentic BTDT look.

nice looking pistol, but just so you know, it is a mixmaster- the gun is obviously reblued (they came parkerized) and it has a 1911 (rather than the proper A1 ) trigger and mainspring housing. Does it still have united states property mark on the right side of frame? at this point since it is far from original put any type grip you want on it. for USGI ww 2 era grips (simple brown plastic) many places (sarco, brownell's etc) sell them cheap. no sense in paying extra for originals if the gun has been modified. If I recall correctly, a outfit called charley's surplus advertises them in the shotgun news for under $20 a pair.

It does still have the property marks on it. I've actually been able to trace it back to the day it left the factory and where it was delivered (Naval Supply Yard, Norfolk June 1942). I knew it was missing the mainspring housing and the trigger was "wrong". I'm hoping it still has some value to it and may try to just move it as is.
