Hi, good Sunday morning!
Just picked up a new 36 the other day that has been on my short list for several years. I fell in love with a friend's that let me borrow his over a weekend for a range trip.
I tried the search but couldn't come up with an answer to my question. My mags will not drop free. I know others have had this issue as well, anyone have any suggestions as to a remedy?
I've tried a little judicious sanding on the mag release inside the mag well because the release seems to be the possible source of the problem. No effect.
Love my 36. Fits me like a 19 but produces fatter holes ;>))
Thanks for any suggestions!

My 23 mags did the same thing when new. After a few trips to the range they learned on their own what they needed to do. I'm a bit worried that you're modifying your mags. I'd lleave them alone and let them learn lest you get them falling out at wrong times, or flying back and hitting you in the face. IMHO, that is.

Thanks, but I didn't modify the mags but the mag catch. I wasn't entirely comfortable with it myself so I have 2 new ones on the way. I sacrificed the original one in the name of R&D ;>))

I had a Gen 1, G-17 in the early 1990's as a duty carry in my LEO days. The magazines were not drop free, for training it was common practice to hand strip from the base after magazine release button was pushed. All in one motion and fast with constant repetition.

All these years later, even with drop free. I still grab those mags and pull. Its like second nature, including the G-36.

I ordered a new mag catch to replace the original that I trimmed a little on.
I've dropped and re-dropped mags repeatedly out of the pistol and it seems to be gradually getting better about the mags falling free more easily. Not sure why this is, or what they were sticking on to begin with, the cause wasn't very clear. But I won't complain. ;>))
Boy, I sure love this pistol. It has become overall my most favorite GLOCK. I know it doesn't have the capacity of my 21, but it's hard for me not to love a pistol that fits me and carries like my 19 but is a .45!

will they drop free with a loaded magazine?

Yep, the extra weight seems to help out with that-

so something on the magazine is causing enough resistance in the well to keep it from dropping.

try this: generously coat an unloaded magazine with hoppe's cleaning fluid, hold the gun upright, slide the mag in and have it lock, then release the mag and pull it out and look at the cleaning fluid on the mag. where it is streaked the most (or removed entirely), that is where it is rubbing on the inside of the magazine well. look in there to see what it's hitting.

Ahhh, like dykem. Hadn't occurred to me, thank you.
That quarter shot of the M5 looks so much like my Z3.
I'll bet that M5 won't run will it?
