The Danish Madsen submachine gun was my favorite old timey buzz gun from the looks department alone.

The good ol' Madsen machine gun! The weird design (tilting block locking, separate extractor setup, separate cartridge rammer, etc.) was done to avoid conflict with Maxim patents. The oddest thing: even though it LOOKED like a kludge, it was reliable in duty use. A comment I remember about it:

The wonder of the Madsen design is NOT that it worked so well. It is that it worked AT ALL!
