View Full Version : Help ID'ing a Mauser (K98?)
So, I picked up a 8mm Mauser today. It appears to be a kar98k, but I'm having a devil of a time tracking down info on it. It seems to be a Czech manufacture. It says "ceskoslovenska zbrojovka as brno" on the side, has the number 1654 on the receiver and bolt, 143 on the mag floorplate, the letters MZ stamped on the barrel, and what looks like a lion rampart proof mark on the receiver and barrel. It appears to be a bit of a mix-master as the front barrel band seems to have yet another number on it as well as a Waffen mark.
Any help is greatly appreciated.
I don't think so. It has a bent bolt and the rear sight isn't surrounded by wood. It looks like a K98k. I'm thinking maybe some of the factory code was removed since there were a couple Czech codes containing MZ according to http://mauser98k.internetdsl.pl/kodyliten.html
Post picts?
It might be a post war manufacture 98.
Look like this?

Pretty much like that, yeah. It doesn't have the winter trigger guard or the cupped buttplate, but otherwise, it's pretty close. I'll post pics tomorrow. I need to get some batteries for my camera first.
