So I recently took the plunge and purchased my first firearm a couple weeks ago. And now I want another one lol, so I'm looking for suggestions on a fun pistol. I have a g22 and a g23.

To give you an idea of what I'm thinking... I'm looking at a .22lr style gun like a sig or keltec. But please give me any suggestions, regardless of caliber or brand and a reason why. I'm trying to shy away from Glock (please don't hurt me).

Also, please keep them practical lol, I know a $1200 kimber would be fun. But I'd like to stay in the 400-600 range.

The best thing going are the Ruger 22/45 or MK series .22lr pistols.....others will suggest the Browning Buckmarks, also good choices. Either of these will last forever and offer very good triggers and excellent accuracy.
If you want something more service pistol-like, consider the GSG guns.

Ditto, huge fan of the 22/45... Awesome little .22 lots of 3rd party support, extremely reliable if kept clean.

You have a disease? What do you call 36 guns? Bac calls it a start

Get a Beretta 21, small little 22lr that fits in your hand. About $300 or less.

Your sick and there's no help! Welcome to the club, do you want a pistol or rifle?

At that budget with what you have there is a catalog of all kinds of guns that I would buy before buying a 22 pistol. For 600 bucks you can get some real cool and IMO more needed guns than a 22 pistol. Some of the lower priced AR 15's are around that price. A decent AK is that price. An awesome Defense shotgun is well in that range. However if you must get a 22 pistol I'd go with a Ruger 10/45 1st, followed by a Walther P22, then a Ruger SR 22. But please think about that I said and get sweet long gun to go with what you have!

A shotgun is a possibility. Was mainly looking to stay in the handguns, but a shorty sounds fun =)

For the 4-600 dollar range and not sure if any of your local Wal-marts sell guns, but if they do you could easily have both a good 22 rifle and a Remington 870.

$400-600....Get an AR

For that price range and a AR in the same sentence is damn hard to be found around here. The best deal around here for an AR is a M&P sport and the price tag is 700 bucks!

You don't have a disease. You've just discovered the formula for optimal number of guns. N+1, with N being the current number of guns you own.

If you want some cheap plinking range fun then a 22/45 would work. I took mine to the range this past weekend and went through a box of 555 and some loose rounds I had without even thinking about it, by the time I looked around I was the only one left in the bay. You are on the right track:
1. Admitt that you are addicted :tongueout:
2. Think about what you want next and its inteded use or purpose
Good luck on your decision!

Everyone should learn how to shoot a DA revolver. I love my Ruger SP101 revolver in .22LR. It is a ton of fun and cost about $.04/shot of .22 bulk pack.

After a while you'll understand the addiction.

When the wife says "Let's go to Walmart to grocery shop", and you head for the gun counter to see if they have more hundred round boxes of Winchester White Box range ammo.

(Hint: buy 'em all)

Ruger 10/22
Ruger 22/45
Ruger Mk I, II, or III

S&W mdl 19, 66, 586, 686 (all .357 Magnum)

Since so many of us have this affliction, it's not a disease. It's an epidemic!!!!

I believe that a .22 can be a both a skill builder and alot of inexpensive fun. I still want a Model 41. From what I have read here, the Ruger SR22 has had good reviews here and is not too expensive. Alot of people here like the Ruger Mk models. I you have no specific preference probably whichever is less expensive.

To me one of the best reasons for a .22 is that even when you don't want to spend the money to shoot a few hundred centerfire rounds, you can shoot up a brick of .22.

Wow these are awesome suggestions, the Ruger 22/45 has quite the following doesn't it? I've never even heard of it before to be honest.

I'm no expert, but basically, the Ruger Mark II, and III sort of have the lines and grip angle of the old German Luger.

But lots of Americans are used to the Colt 1911 grip angle.

So Ruger created the 22/45, which basically takes the Mark II and puts a 1911 grip angle on it.

I welcome anyone with more details and a better story, but that's my basic understanding. I've always liked the 22/45 I've shot. But I haven't liked the Mark II.

So on another, semi-related topic. My friend just offered to sell me a ‎ ‎9 mm taurus millennium with 100 rounds for $300. Never been fired.

What are you guys' thoughts on these guns? and on this deal?

Still interesting in other types of guns. Just figured I'd ask about this here instead of making a new post. That keltec is pretty sweet looking =P

Just say NO on the Taurus and get back on track for a nice .22 pistol:supergrin: either the Ruger or a Browning Buckmark will make you a happy shooter!!!

OP,

I was once in your shoes, and I did NOT have the luxury of gun forums to guide me - I did it all on my own.

My reccomendation to you would be this:

INSTEAD of another handgun I would suggest a rifle....specifically, an AK-47 type rifle!!!!

I have EIGHT and I can tell you that they are a hoot to shoot!!!! Handguns are fun too, but NOTHING can compare to the AK-47!!!!!

If you absolutely must have a handgun, might I suggest a Ruger Mk III with threaded barrel? I recently bought a suppressor for my Walther P-22 and can't wait till it arrives!

In short, I think a rifle would make you very happy.

These. And before you buy a long gun, make sure you have someplace to shoot it. ARs and AKs are great but most pistol ranges won't let you shoot them there. Unless they're outdoor.

We have an indoor range here in Fort Lauderdale that DOES allow rifles. Only stipulation is that we have to buy their ammo.

NOT a big deal to me.:wavey:

You're lucky. Ours require handgun rounds only. However we do have C2 Training Facility, Virginia Beach, feel free to google. An awesome (but can get expensive) outdoor training facility.

PMR30 if you can find one. Otherwise a ruger sr22.

agrech
05-16-2012, 14:08
Alright so I think I narrowed it down to the keltec pmr30, ruger 22/45 and ruger sr22.

Now I'm leaning more to the keltec, but where would I even start to look? The things are impossible to find. If I just can't find one, the sr22 is a distant second choice.

Any ideas?

Got first gun ever, Glock 23 last month. M&P .22 a few weeks after that. Looking for a rifle now. After that, I think I'll get a revolver - maybe a .357.

I'm 56 years old and as of a couple of months ago, I never owned a gun. Today, I'm amassing an arsenal. I think it really is a disease! And there's only one cure.... more guns .
