This is the most supremely F-ed up think I've heard of in a long time. It's religious in nature and certainly an issue so it's a prime candidate for the religious issues forum.

I'd never heard of the practice of using the mouth to remove blood during circumcision but you'd think that in this modern age there would be a more hygienic and far less pedophilic option.

This makes no sense.

Leviticus 17:10-12, "10 “‘I will set my face against any Israelite or any foreigner residing among them who eats blood, and I will cut them off from the people. 11 For the life of a creature is in the blood, and I have given it to you to make atonement for yourselves on the altar; it is the blood that makes atonement for one’s life.[c (http://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Leviticus+17&version=NIV#fen-NIV-3247c)] 12 Therefore I say to the Israelites, “None of you may eat blood, nor may any foreigner residing among you eat blood.”

I don't think they actually eat the blood. I think this is just a sick barbaric practice that doesn't get talked about much because it's religious in nature and for the people that do this it's probably more about the pen*s than the blood. There are better ways to go about it (like not circumcising babies anymore at all) and the bible says nothing about inappropriate contact with children's privates so I guess it's a free for all.

Outside of the creepiness and barbarism, I wouldn't classify it as pedophilia.

There has to be sexual reasoning for it to be pedophilia. I touch my kids dong 6 times a day (god I can't wait for him to be potty trained). So if they're doing it for pseudo medical reasons...I don't think I'd toss out the pedo card.

It doesn't mention the activity listed in the article as acceptable in any way shape or form.

It's accepted by everyone that accepts it. That's the whole issue. I've never heard the outcry from the Jewish community about how this needs to stop because it's a part of their religion and they don't want to go against that. In much the same way, you don't here much outcry from the Islamic community about suicide bombings because it's a part of their religion and they don't want to openly oppose that even if they don't agree with it.

Here's a guy talking all about why he really needs to have baby pen*ses in his mouth.

Among his justifications; It's tradition. Saliva has antiseptic qualities. Our old book says so and some numerology BS.

Not really a prime topic for a semantics argument. They do circumcisions in hospitals all the time and nobody has to use their mouth and babies don't get STDs.

If somebody does it this way it's simply because THEY WANT TO and I don't care about their motivation. It doesn't make them any less of a sick bastard.

The practice may not qualify as a crime. But it is most assuredly without any merit at all.

I heard in first aid class that human bites were worse than dog bites from the perspective of infections possible. Human mouth/saliva is more septic than anti-septic... Hence there was a Mohel passing Herpes I to the babies, and that turns out to be mostly fatal to babies who don't yet have a fully functional immune system. Rare, admittedly.

You don't know what that Mohel has had in his mouth!

Oh, wait..... you do!

Seriously, same issue with the common cup in Communion when people didn't know if AIDS could be transmitted that way, lots of churches went to individual glasses. Traditions are great, but are not set in stone. Sometimes you have to make allowances for new information appearing.
