View Full Version : Question about my Walther P38...

I've had this 1967 Walther P38 for a few years now. I got it from a collector who bought it new and never fired it.

Does anyone know how long Walther produced glossy blue P38s? They don't seem very common. I've never seen another in a store anywhere. Out of the 74 P38s on Gunbroker right now, I see exactly one with the same finish as mine. Does anybody know the deal with these? Though I own a few classic Wathers, I know little about the company's history when it comes to model variations.

Here's the one like mine, except mine has no import markings on the right side.

Any help is greatly appreciated!

Here's mine...

I remember you showing that thing off when I was asking about the C&R P1's that had come onto the market. That gun is totally beautiful. I know they weren't cheap "back in the day", I'm sure they price has gone way up since they're not being made anymore.

Is never fired better than seldom fired, with a pre-owned gun?

Sure is a beauty, just begging for some Winchester white box to be run through her

I hear you, my friend.

I'll probably just pick up a P38 shooter at some point. This one has been unfired since leaving Germany 45 years ago.

You know, Frank, the post war aluminum P38s and P1s are great values. You can still get them for a good price.

Yep, they're about $350 on my C&R shipped to my door, can't beat that deal. Still, I've finally narrowed my handgun calibers down to 38Spl/357Mag for Revolver and 45acp for semis, I'm going to stick with those and not spend anymore on dies, bullet molds, brass, ect. to load anything else.

Makes sense

However, 9mm is my favorite caliber.

Are you sure it's a 67? I am pretty sure they did the glossy blue during the 40's for their military runs. I never saw a glossy blue P38 post-1953. Ill try to get ahold of my uncle who is a Walther nut to see what he says about it. He has a few p38's.

Beautiful gun as always bac.

Yes, its a '67. The year is actually stamped on the trigger guard. Its a post war aluminum framed P38.
