Apparently this church feels they're above criticism.

But really, a small part of me wants to say it serves her right for getting involved with crazies like that in the first place. I hope the judge throws the case out.

Sociological definitions of the term 'cult' ...
...include consideration of such factors as authoritarian leadership patterns, loyalty and commitment mechanisms, lifestyle characteristics, [and] conformity patterns (including the use of various sanctions in connection with those members who deviate).

Where did this trend of selecting definitions for words by what benefits one's argument come from? Choosing a definition that has come about threw New Speak is disingenuous. Etymologically a cult is: a system of religious veneration and devotion directed toward a particular figure or object.
Religions are cults, cults are religions. Rock. Stone.

"The word cult in current popular usage usually refers to a new religious movement or other group whose beliefs or practices are considered abnormal or bizarre."

... by a people who a majority of which are currently members of religions that were at one time considered abnormal or bizarre ...
Although, word usage does change over time.
