Why not also look into the gargantuan amounts of money the public unions, big labor and Hollywood pump into swaying elections?
McCain and Whitehouse said in a joint statement that they were “deeply concerned” about the rise of unlimited and undisclosed spending in elections.

“This unregulated and unaccountable spending invites corruption into our political process, and undermines our democracy,” the senators said. “We urge the Supreme Court to make clear that legislatures can take appropriate actions against corrupting influences in campaigns.”

The problem isn't money in campaigns...it is the character of those who take it as they seek power...

For once in his miserable and unproductive life I wish McCain would fight for some vitally important, like border control. But I guess he's too busy "reaching across the aisle."

What still, to this day, never ceases to amaze me is the comments made after articles like this. It's sad that such a large amount of the population are so stupid, blind, and absolutely clueless.

And with comments like "faux snooze" and "Koch brothers", it's not hard to figure out which side of the aisle that large amount of the population belongs to.

As for John McCain, this as well as his stance on illegal aliens are just more reasons for term limits and mandatory retirements for some of these older dead-from-the-neck-up political hacks.

Simple answer. Treat corporations as what they are, businesses and not "persons." And... treat money as what it is, a medium of exchange and not "speech." Finally, restrict any donations from any source to less than $100 regardless of how it is generated, bundled, etc. Prohibit any candidate from self-funding his own campaign from personal funds. As well, prohibit any outside group not affiliated with a candidate.

Of course it would bite for those who are currently profiting off the current system. But it would immediately eliminate the big money purchasing of legislatures and executives at the state and federal level.

The rational is simple. It would eliminate everyone from the kock's and their cable to the unions and their supporters from being able to unduly influence the electoral process. If a candidate needed to raise money, they'd have to do it the old fashioned way... by going to the people who vote and not just the people with money to burn.

Reaching across the aisle to give someone a tug, as usual.

McCain-Feingold had two purposes: silence citizens' organizations like the NRA and further assure the re-election of incumbents. It helps to further push us down to the level of serfs and peasants.
