I'm wondering if anyone can help me ID this single shot Shotgun. It's in pretty rough shape, and pretty old.

I tried to get decent shots of numbers and lettering, but most are faded.

It looks very similar to a JC Higgins shotgun that I have. Higgins was the brand name for guns sold by Sears many years ago. Alot of them were made by Savage/Stevens.

The rust pitting is pretty bad, so I can be sure based off the pics you posted. There were a TON of similar cheap shotguns made during this time, so like I said cant be sure.

I had to replace the firing pin and extractor in mine and had to have the parts fabricated. Only reason I felt it was worth the cost was because this was grandad's gun during the depression, then my fathers, and then mine for my 8th birthday. Alot of squirrels and rabbits have ended up on the dinner table because of this little gun. I figured it was worth it.

This is a pic of mine:

.410's aren't known for excellent patterns, but this thing is "choked down like a rifle" and can really take small game at 40yds.

After getting mine out of the safe I am not 100% sure. The position of the receiver pins looks spot on, but your gun does not appear to have an extractor, and the trigger guard and location of the serial number does not match.

The two most prolific shotgun makers in the U.S. were Stevens/Savage and Crescent.

Both companies made a single barrel shotgun that looks like yours.

Odds are that your shotgun was made by one of those two companies.

Thanks for the insight. This shotgun is not in the country, so I can't get better pics and description until I make a visit.
