Hello GT, I am new to reloading and picked up some WST after going thru a pound of 231. I looked in my manuals and the only thing i see listed for WST in 230gr FMJ FP.

I will be using 230gr FMJ RN loading 4.4 to 4.6grs to shoot thru a glock 21, my OAL is 1.24 to 1.246

Will I be good in that range, and does anyone have other info on this powder with 230gr FMJ.

Thanks in advance,

Ike Peacock

The Hodgdon site has data for Winchester powders:
http://data.hodgdon.com/cartridge_load.asp

Unfortunately, they only show a 230 gr FMJ FP. This will affect the OAL but probably not the powder charge.

Their range is 4.1 - 4.9 gr WST at 1.200" for the FMJ FP bullet.

There are some comments here re 4.5 gr WST:

Be careful with Internet loads, they are dubious at best. The fact that they are in the middle of the Hodgdon data makes them seem a little more credible.

Use the link to Hodgdon's site F106 Fan provided, load to your OAL and you will be GTG.

Depending on what vel level you are looking for, you'll probably want to be closer to 4.6gr as a working load, about 800fps in 5" guns.

Well back from the range. All rounds went bang, 4.4 thru 4.7 gr of WST with 230 FMJ RN at 1.24-1.246. The one thing is on two of the 4.7 rounds seemed really light, like squib light. There was nothing stuck just really soft.

I am crimping to .471( just removing bell ) everything was good tell i moved to shoot the 4.7 gr rounds. I made only 7 of them and checked each round for correct powder weight.

Could it be that I had a couple of rounds crimped ( just to remove bell ) at .471 and it just was'nt enough. Thinking that bullet moved before ample pressure built up, I did have to rack the slide to remove one of the cases.

Even uncrimped, that should not happen. Did you weigh each charge or just visually verify? To get any add'l use out of a taper crimp, you have to over apply it IME, & that doesn't help accuracy. With a 230grFMJ, I routinely run 4.7gr @ 1.255" OAL, about 820fps.

One the 4.7 gr rounds, I weighed all 7 by hand. I will make up 20 or so and see how it does again. The others shot fine , powder seemed to be right on.Both 231 and WST seem to meter very well in the 550.

I also looked at the brass on all the rounds with WST and everything looked really good. I will post again on the outcome.

Well I loaded up 20 more rounds of WST at 4.7grs only had a issue with one of them, just like last time. I also loaded up 50 at 4.5grs, 30 at 4.6grs and had no issue at all with those.

I think I am going to stay at 4.6grs seems to be good for me.

Thanks to all for the info.
