Hi folks. I am curious about what knife brands and models are the most popular and most used. Please take a moment to post the brand and model of knife you carry/use the most. Once this thread runs it coarse, I'll take the top twenty-five brands/models mentioned and start a poll thread, to find out the pecking order. I appreciate your input. Eric

Older model Spyderco Byrd Cara Cara: 3-3/4 plain, flat ground blade. Most features of all lockbacks out there at a fraction of the price.

For formal occasions I'll carry a CRKT M16-10KZ, 3in. black combo Tanto. Clip/carry position is limited, but knife is very low profile, fast and very sharp. I've cut myself and didn't know for a few minutes.

Carried so often for work, that i've taken to carrying it as my edc knife.

I used to be on the edge of legality for the blades I would choose to carry, now it's no longer a concern.

I am working on a prototype to improve this design even further, and am excited over the project.

on most normal days i carry a spyderco tenacious, mod.# c122g. (mine is zip tied for quick pocket deployment if that matters)

on days when i'm doing yardwork or i'm out in wilds i carry a cold steel g10 xl espada, mod.# 62NGX. being a folder with a 7, 1/2 blade this thing is quite literally a pocket bowie.

EDC is a Benchmade Griptillian (plain blade w/ opening stud). For dress or traveling, a mini grip of the same configuration. These feel almost like a fixed blade when they lock open. Generous and ergonomically shaped handles/grips fill the hand.

I used to be a knife collector--always looking for an EDC that was better but not since I found these. This freed up more money to buy ammo and guns.

But I updated it to this model: http://www.lonewolfdist.com/Detail.aspx?PROD=1076

On my key ring so it goes everywhere I go.

I also have a Buck Strider:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/BUCK-STRIDER-889-FOLDING-KNIFE-BLACK-BLADE-RARE-RANGER-GREEN-HANDLE-/200763445613?pt=Collectible_Knives&hash=item2ebe6f116d
That I absolutely love but I never carry it bcause I don't want to lose it since they aren't made anymore.

I think my favorite is the Manix 2. If I was to have only one folder it's the one. Aside from the Strider that is... Also, if you want to really use this knife, skip the stainless steel handled Spyderco's and go with the FRN or G-10 models.

Hope this helps you Eric in your quest for the best pocket knife...

On my off duty time I have standard spyderedge black endura, at work I carry the Glocktalk / Lonewolf Endura with the built in armorers tool. I EDC two knives, a larger size and a small size. The larger is currently rotated between two, the SOG Trident Folder (C122G) and the Spyderco Tenacious (TF1). The smaller one is a cheap Schrade (SP2) folder. I use the Schrade most often. It is light and cheap. I wouldn't really care if I lost it, but it has been with me for probably close to 15 years.

I've had/have Benchmades, Bucks, Kabars, and countless others, but the cheap, little ones are the ones I use the most. I wouldn't want to trust my life to one of them and that is why I carry a larger one, but for day to day use you can't beat the cheapy. :dunno:

I really can't believe this but I just looked at every page (could have missed it ) and am I really going to be the first one to say I carry a Strider SNG with ranger green scale and black blade everywhere, everyday? Wtf GT? Strider and Reeve and Hinderer (as well as ZT) make some of the best hard use knives IMHO. I sometimes carry a ProTech godson if I'm dressing up, but by far the Strider lineup of folders are some of the toughest knives ever.

You make a valid point.

I've come to the conclusion that knives are like footwear; you take on what's appropriate for the task at hand. I love my Redwing boots, but I don't wear them all the time... in fact, I really look forward to taking them off at night.

To that end, for "rough use", I prefer a fixed blade. I'll pick up one of my Busse's, Cold Steels, or even a tomahawk depending on where I'm likely to be and what I'm doing, and will used a folder in conjunction with whatever's going on to fill in for the light work. Also, I don't want to pull out my Microtech Socom in the post office to cut the twine off a package, if you follow... couple that with the fact I'm not as likely to be found in the bush unless it's in pursuit of a good time, and my choice of cutlery will more likely be toward the finer end.

Nice!

Thanks! :wavey:

Hey Lone Wolfe, think you can spare one of those Hinderers for me? You can consider it a late birthday gift :whistling:

I see all these expensive ($100+) knives and most look brand new. I know that some of the pictures are probably stock manufacturers pictures, but I wonder how many here actually use them daily for more than cleaning their fingernails and opening mail? I'm not knocking anybody, I enjoy the beautiful ones, too. Lone Wolfe's collection makes me

Thanks! :wavey: BTW, you'll notice there's not a mint condition one in the bunch.

Put a nice gouge in my Spyderco Endura 4 tonight using the blade to disassemble my Ruger 22/45. Love Spyderco and mine is plain black with the half serrated blade. Great knife to carry everyday and don't mind that it gets banged up.

I like to switch things up, but for the last few months I have been carrying a Spyderco Dragonfly at work (business environment) and have been very happy with it.

Don't let its size fool you, it is very useful and can tackle some pretty hefty jobs.

When I am not carrying that, it is usually a Delica 4 or Mini Grip.

I am not gentle on my knives, but have never had a pocket clip break :dunno:

The last time I had a clip break was when Spyderco was making the original Endura. The clips were molded from the FRN.

Out of my first few years in the Army I may have bought three that I abused and/or died of tip or clip breakage and the tip was from me and my buddies throwing it into the back side of Fort Polk's encampments in the box.
