Can you guys recommend me a decent light?

I'm wanting one to mount on the rail of my AR for stubborn late night possums and raccoons, etc.

I don't need a crazy bright $500 light. Is there anything fairly bright, durable, yet reasonably priced?

It needs to fit on a standard picatinny rail.

So what do you guys say? I would like to have a remote switch or maybe a switch on the back plate that I can reach with my finger/thumb from the VFG.

I have pretty much zero experience with illumination tools and I know a lot of you folks are into it, so I'm asking for your advice.

Thanks. :wavey:

Lasermax has this all in one fwd grip with laser and LED navigation light for $140 at CDNN. The LED is rediculously bright and reaches out about 60 feet. Flip of the switch and you have steady or pulse laser. I definitely prefer it to having seperate grip, laser and or light.

Personally I like the Streamlight TLR2 (laser/light) for low light/dark shooting.
The Streamlight TLR1 is the same light but doesn't have the laser.

I have G2s, TRL1s, TRL2s, M3s, ect... The Streamlight Polytach is the best bang for the buck out there. It's bright, durable, and has good battery life. You can snag one on amazon for $35 and a mount for $5-10. It's an awesome affordable set up.

Thanks guys. What does one of those streamlights set you back, Buck? Also, I'm guessing those are the switches that I see on the back. How do they operate (push, flip up/down, etc.)?

Damn, I didn't know they were that inexpensive. Sounds like a good buy.

The small polymer handhelds like the Polytac and Streamlight G2 make a lot of light for th emoney and are perfect for a regular joe who needs a weapon light.

Streamlight polytac is just about unbeatable at 40 dollars.

I personally prefer the momentary activation of the Surefire X300. The TLR1 requires toggling the switch whereas the X300 is a simple forward push for activation. I use a thumb over grip and the push activation works best for me. However, depending on your grip and the location of the light, the X300 momentary could be accidentally activated if your hand pushes into it. If your local gun stores stock them, try them out to see what best suits your need.

I also like the SF mini-scout as well, but some feel that they're underpowered. They're more expensive than the X300, but they come with the momentary tape switch.

If you use the VFG for your full grip (instead of as a handstop) a tape switch will be better. The combination VFG/light may work for you (I've never had the need to try one).

The Polytac is an excellent value. I'm a big fan as a handheld. I haven't used one as a weapon light as of yet, but I do have mount on order.

Streamlight and Surefire have worked really well for me.

Personally, I really like the TLR1s.

I'm very happy with my TLR-1s. Just got the S because it was on sale. I disabled the strobe function.

I have a few Streamlight TLR-1's and a TLR-2 on pistols.

I also have a TLR-1 mounted on my PLR-16 with a pressure switch. The pressure switch wasn't really needed, but it gives me the ability to momentarily turn the light on with my fingers where they naturally are when holding the fore end. The pressure switch adapter plate for the TLR-1 also retains the momentary and constant on toggle on the left side of the light.

(Before anyone mentions it, I have the wire tied to the outside of the hand guard now, so it doesn't get melted by the barrel. This is an old pic.)

I have a Streamlight TL-1 mounted on my 590 with a cheap Beamshot mount. The light was under $40 (it's the older non LED model). Still trying to decide if I want it under the mag tube, or rotated to the side.

I have this. I never use, so if you want, I'll give you a good deal on it.

Most of the Deputies in my Dept. (me included) carry the TLR-1 or the TLR-1S (also has strobe effect). They are very bright, very durable, and batteries last about 2 hours. Cost is around $100.00. Very hard to beat.

If you don't have a front sight mounted on the barrel an X300 at 12:00 is ****.

If you do, a Mini Scout at 11:00 or 1:00 is the next best thing.
