A friend of mine has a CZ75 that he may do some trading on. I have never held a CZ, but he raves about its awesomeness. I understand it has a safety and is a DA/SA gun.

How do you decock it? Good guns?

Many versions out there.
Some have decocker instead of the safety, some have the safety only and can be carried cocked & locked exactly like 1911. Also there is a SA version available or version with the plastic frame. Excellent plus pistols.

Decock by gently lowering the hammer with your free hand or thumb of shooting hand while pulling the trigger enough to release the hammer. I have small hands so I do not use the thumb of my shooting hand like I can, say, when decocking a K frame Smith revolver. I use my off hand, though many would say it's improper procedure.

I have a 75B, it's one of the most underrated pistols out there. Fantastic in every respect. Great ergos, accuracy, you name it.

One of the best guns ergonomically I've held. Unfortunately, I must have got the only lemon they ever produced (jam-o-matic) You will get 99.9% positive feedback on the CZ75B. So don't use my experience as a basis for your decision. I was just unlucky I guess.

3 CZs and 2 clones, Love them. Very ergonomical. Very accurate and not a malfunction EXCEPT for the full sized with the "Omega" trigger system. CZ got a bunch of badly tempered springs and I got one. They had it fixed and back to me in less than 10 days and it's run like a top since.

Had a clone 20+ years ago (Tanfoglio TZ75). Arguably the best feeling grip of any pistol I have ever had. A "for real" CZ75 is on my "want" list. Go for it...

In 9mm they are great guns, in 40 they are more hit or miss but still great guns. The 40 has more issues then the 9mm.

Its one of the best 9mms ever built, in my opinion.

I think I might like the decocker. I'm not so sure about the safety only one. Thoughts?

IMO the CZ's have the one of the best decockers going. No shifting of the grip at all to use it. On the other side of the coin the safety lever on the the non-decockers is too blinking small for my thumb to reliably hit everytime. That isn't a problem considering how smooth the DA pulls are when broken in. You do get used to manuallylowering the hammer.

Ive come to truly love steel pistols... not for carry, but awesome at the range or for HD duty.

^^^^I could not agree more. I have never shot a pistol where the rounds chambers so effortlessly. I shoot it better then any other pistol I own or have ever owned. He is going to be sorry for ever letting it go. You on the other hand will be very happy.

I like the CZ75. It's one of the great handgun designs of all time. The SP01 is one of the best, but has an "interesting" trigger. The double action pull is long and smooth. The SA pull is what I don't care for. The hammer still travels rearward in SA, and it's a long pull. I understand that some custom work can take care of that.

I think the non-decocker is the way to go, so you can carry it cocked and locked. Otherwise, what's the point? You can learn to safely decock your CZ, and the firing pin requires a full strike to make its way forward so even if you slipped it's highly unlikely that you would have an ND.

CZ is IMO the most under rated platform out there.

CZs are outstanding pistols.

I have a 9mm 75B which I love. Accurate, and very little recoil. One of the best 9mm guns you will fine. If you really want to enjoy it, buy the 75B Kadet .22LR adapter kit as well. You replace the slide and the magazines, and you can shoot .22LRs all day long. Absolutely no recoil.

The only downside is that it is a little more of a pain than other guns to take apart to clean. The 10 round .22LRs magazines are also annoying because the magazine could hold many more rounds, but is limited to 10 rounds.

I used to carry a friends loaner Tanfoglio about 20 years ago.
never shot it but it sure did carry and point well.
Seemed very well made.

I was surprised by the quality

It's a decocker. Very tempting.

New or older, the 75 series is good to go. Though I prefer to not use a gun that requires the use of a manual safety, I've carried both the safety and decocker version. DA/SA guns aren't a big deal and don't bother me. You can lower the safety model manually if you choose.

Older and cerakoted pre b 75.

It was a great gun. It fed everything I put in it except the one round I really wanted to carry as a SD round (Winchester Silvertip). It would miss-feed/jam very reliably with that particular round. So I sold it and got a GP100. I want to get a real CZ75 some day.

I found a good deal on a cz 75b a few weeks ago and love it so far. I have only ran a few rounds thru it but it ran flawless and is very accurate.

I came close to getting an SA version not long ago. It will be in line behind a few other guns.

For the SA/DA models that have no decocker, one decocks with the trigger while manually lowering the hammer (preferably while aiming at a backstop).
CZ75s are very good pistols in the 9mm caliber. I own two. One for carry - a SP01 Phantom that replaced my G17 for CCW/ duty use, and one for competition, an SP01 Shadow. The guns are the same size but the Shadow weighs 50 percent more, having a steel frame. It is the sexiest gun ever built, IMO, being a superb blend of form and function.

The CZ's are great guns.

The standard model has a DA trigger with a manual safety. The idea is you can decock the gun safely for carry when not under stress for a traditional DA. If forced to use the gun you can safety it cocked and locked for safe reholstering.

Of course you can also carry it cocked and locked.

The CZ75 is arguably the finest combat 9mm for the money ever made.

Wait.

Let me amend that statement:

The CZ75 is arguably the finest combat 9mm ever made, at any price.

I would personally avoid CZ in .40. Stick with 9mm and it should be a great gun.

I have a CZ 40P which is extremely accurate and feels fantastic in my hand however it's very picky. It took a lot of work and $ to get it to feed FMJ's. It still will not function with hollow point rounds. If I could get a do over I would have passed on this gun. I have it for sale currently. The 75 or PO1 would be a great choice though!

Love my CZ P-01. Love my Glocks too but Glock could learn a thing or two about creating a the perfect grip from CZ.

I like my CZs'. They feel great in the hand, low bore axis, better grip tang than a Browning Hi-Power, and decent prices. My favorite Production Division is the CZ's Shadow. There's a reason even Col. Cooper, a 1911 Fan like me, liked them so much.

I have the 75B with the Kadet conversion, love it.
With the gun pointed in a safe direction, I reach over the top with my left hand and pinch my thumb and index finger between the hammer and the rear of the slide, then pull the trigger, release the trigger as soon as the hammer move forward. By relaxing the pinch, you feel the hammer ease down and stop on the safety notch (half cock). Very easy, very positive, very safe.

There's a good, very good reason the CZ is the second most copied design in the world. Even now, long after the patent has expired companies continue to design "new pistols" based on it. It's just that good.
