Hey all you obsessed fanatics ... err... 10-Ringers.... ;)
Thought I'd give a quick report of my first range outing with my new G29SF. It was a BEAUUUUUTIFULLL 75 degree day here in St Louis today so I figured the outdoor range would be packed. I pulled up and walked up and got in RIGHT away, no wait. Get to my stall, set all my schtuff up and setup my target when the rangemaster said the line was clear...
I had brought several loads with me (probably close to 500 rounds with me JUSTTT cause I like options...)...
Here are the loads I fired from my bone stock G29SF. I only fired 10-20 rounds of each load since I was pressed for time and fired all shots today at only 7 yards, also due to time. Beside the load are the rudimentary notes I had for each load, if any...
-180gr Rainier PHP over 5.5gr HP38 (my pet target load)
-155gr GD over 9.5gr PP
-155gr XTP over 12.0gr BD - stout
-180gr XTP over 9.2gr LS - accurate
-180gr XTP over 10.6gr BD - stout and accurate
-200gr XTP over 8.2gr LS - very slight hog belly starting (as expected, nothing dramatic) but ONE-HOLE ACCURATE
-165gr GS over 9.0gr LS
-165gr GD over 10.0gr LS
-135gr Nosler HP over 10.0gr PP and 12.1gr BD
-200gr Beartooth WFNGC over 7.5, 7.7, 7.9, 8.1, 8.3gr LS - (7.7 and 8.1gr loads were most accurate) - also, minimal leading noted
-180gr XTP over 10.0gr 800X
NONE of the above loads bulged any of the brass to any obvious degree, which really surprised me as, from the looks of it, the stock barrel is quite wide (measured .435" with calipers). None of my recovered brass measured any larger than .433". I had ZERO stoppages and ejection was smart to the right and over my shoulder.
Here are the pics of the range and my targets. I was hurrying the whole time and got a bit fatigued by the time I was running the 165's but I kept going. I need another range day to sort out my findings ... but I WILL say that I've narrowed my powders down to three powders from here on out (assuming availability). HP38, Longshot and Blue Dot.
BTW... take a look at my target stand.... I got the gimped out stand but I swear, its because it was scared of my 10mm..... LOL.
