Joe Chambers RRA National Match Hardball

I have posted this gun elsewhere, but thought ya'll would appreciate it here as well.

Joe Chambers worked on this RRA Hardball gun for me, including:
- New Kart NM barrel and bushing
- Harrison Design retro ignition set with C&S TM strut and first-rate trigger job
- Greider solid medium trigger
- New front sight
- Hand checkered MSH with integral lanyard loop
- Marvel disco slot
- Blended rear of slide
- Carry bevel
- Re-finished blue
- Nitre blue small parts

This was my first experience with custom work of any sort so I am hardly an expert. That said, I am very happy with how this gun turned out. It has about 800 rounds down range since Mr. Chambers returned it to me. It has been functionally flawless and is very accurate, consistently shooting around 1.25in over sandbags at 50 yards with quality ammo (mostly ASYM 230gr. Match Hardball). The lockup, timing and smoothness during cycling are outstanding. And the trigger is excellent as well. Unfortunately, the picture really doesn't do Joe's finishing work justice.

All-in-all, my experience with Mr. Chambers was first rate and I could't be happier with how this project turned out.

Good looking gun. But I do have one question. Why did he replace the existing Kart barrel with another Kart barrel?

With respect to the barrel, the hood was over cut with a hood-to-breech face gap of .010" and it was cut at an angle such that the hood was making contact with the breech face at a singular point. The chamber was over-reemed as well. So, instead of welding up the hood and filing it to spec, Joe recommended replacing the stock barrel all together.

"Retro ignition set" is John Harrison's designation for his bobbed and narrowed spur hammer, sear, and disco. Great quality parts by the way. The Harrison hammer cured the hammer bite issue I had with the stock part.

It's a channel machined into the stripper rail of the slide, originally introduced by Bob Marvel. Check out this link and start with Jerry Keefer's post. The disco slot really smooths out operation of the slide. There is virtually no perceptible stripper rail - disconnector contact with this modification (at least for my gun).
