A railed 1911 where there was no rail.

Have a few guns that I've wanted rails on, a couple 1911s and my Beretta 92. Been looking around to see what would work and I came across a video on youtube for the TICK rail. I'd been leaning toward a Novak rail but didn't want to drill into the frame. So when I saw this I was very interested. http://www.trgear.com/osc/eshop/product_info.php/products_id/216

Works pretty easy, you pull your slide stop out, slide the rail on and put the new (extended) stop in. Take the supplied little driver and tighten the set stew down against the trigger guard. It pushes the little plastic rail out away from it so it locks it.

and the right side, you see where the new slidestop comes just to the edge of the new rail.

and the finished product, it holds the light a little lower than I was expecting but overall seems good.

It's just plastic, but feels very sturdy. I put 3 mags through it after I put it together and it had a few slide hangups early in the first mag, but worked itself in quickly.

So far so good I'd say And not bad for anybody trying to add a light onto a gun without drilling the gun.

I'm not a fan of railed 1911s, but if you have a need for one, that's a lot better than drilling into the dust cover. As long as its sturdy that is, and you said it was.

Have you fired it at the range yet? I'd like to see how it holds up after a few hundred rounds. I don't care for the looks but function over form!

Yeah, that wouldn't be good. If its a carry gun, its going to happen anyway though.

Just a couple mags, didn't seem to move at all. It's on there pretty tight actually. It's a fairly tight fit before you start messing with the set screw. After that it feels like it's not gonna move at all. You can grab the light and pull on it. You're right though, it's not pretty but I want working over pretty

not too concerned about that. No real plans to be putting it on/off a lot, plus on that gun you'd never notice any new or shiny marks. It's been worn in over the years. A dark black spot would be much more obvious.

update:

I put about 200rds through it today and by the end the screw had worked itself a little bit loose. Light was still held on just had a bit of give. So I tightened it bakc up with some loctite and we're gonna try it again.

This being said, I'm happy with the results. It's more or less a home defense gun, and I know the light is gonna stay put, won't work itself out at all, worst case if there happens to be Civil War II in my living room before i can get to one of the others, my guns light may come a little loose after mag after mag of rapid fire.
