Saw this on FOX NEWS. Poor guy had a terrible life. Even his daughter, and brother turned against him. His mother is the famous atheist leader Madalyn Murray O'Hair.

"My mother, brother and daughter were murdered by fellow atheists.

There is no getting around the evidence. For almost three years the national atheist organization my mother once led has claimed she left the country with a large amount of money. This was false and I will tell you in this letter why they told this lie over and over again".

When you don't have a set boundry of morality, anything is possible.

It sure is. :wavey:

Without his famous mommy, Wm. J. Murray would have been a nobody.
I once met Madalyn's son Jon, who seemed like a nice fellow, but lacked his mother's forceful dynamic.
I used to hang out in an internet forum with her daughter Robin, who seemed to be a sweet, calm person (unlike her fiery mother).

Anyway, Madalyn had a lapse of good logic and decided to be kind and give a break to an ex-con who turned on her and murdered the family except for William, who, of course, was not around. What was really a disgrace to Christianity was that the local law enforcement took virtually no interest in the case, figuring everyone was better off with her gone.

William tried to get what he could of mommy's money and seems to have made a living writing books and playing up to the religious crowd.

Madalyn was a difficult person to get along with and went through multiple partners. Her atheist group is probably doing better now than when the old grouch was alive, so in an odd way, her death helped atheism along its growth path.

Sad but true, her abrasive nature was a detriment to forming a widespread group. Her writings are still around, so you can still get the rational thoughts without the snarly personality.

Forceful dynamic?? Does anyone know what this really mean?

Let me guess: In other words, her son is not an atheist...as was her mother?

be an atheist??

What the hell is "had a lapse of good logic"?
You got to shoot straight, man. Say it the way it should be: She was stupid.

I was speaking of the atheist son who was murdered along with his mother and sister. He did not have the pushy style of his mother.

...She was stupid.
She was in her mid-70's when murdered, so she may well have lost the sharpness of her younger days. But even if she were just plain all-around stupid, that still doesn't bring a god into existence.

For the benefit of younger people who don't know enough history to know how things have changed due to the efforts of those like Madalyn, here's an article that tells you what life was like when the Christians ruled with impunity...

It wasn't just her personality. She was a Communist during the Cold War who unsuccessfully tried to defect to the Soviet Union. Agnosticism? Fine, but organized atheism is a communist ideology. There's nothing rational about communism.

When you don't have a set boundry of morality, anything is possible.

And she may or may not have, but her morality has nothing to do with whether she believed in a religion or which one. Religion is only 1 type and source of moral rules, out of many.

The irony of the article is pretty interesting. Preaching his religious beliefs, while criticizing his mother for preaching hers, but deriving the fame he uses to preach it directly from her.

Madalyn was a woman who served in WW II, receiving 6 battle stars, so I think she qualified as a patriot who fully deserved her rights as an American. There is no law against being a communist or socialist, and she had the right to be either. So what's the big deal?

But were those rumors true? Madalyn successfully sued Wm. F. Buckley for calling her a communist. Too bad she isn't still around to get you too.

Unlike many Americans at the time, she was not afraid to mingle with socialists and communists. She was an integrationist, militant feminist, a libertarian, and all the other things that the 1950's bigots loved to hate, but Americans have come a long way since then. Without people like Madalyn, we'd still be in that cesspool mentality.

Again with the baseless assertion that moral codes can only derive from theism. And, BTW, do you believe that all the theistic moral codes of the various world religions past and present are worthy and positive guides for individual and societal behavior?

Believers just can't seem to get around their deeply cherished fantasy that all non-believers are somehow depraved and living amoral lives.

Ironically, I believe that a religious believer can never be truly moral/good, since their morality is based on pure self-interest. There is no version of christian/muslim religious morality that claims anything other than reward and punishment as a motive.

Depends. Some believers I know have a blanket condemnation of all non-religious people, but most of them distinguish between basic agnostics/non-believers and dogmatic, activistic atheists.
