Condolences to the King family...

Given what we knew about the man, one had the sense that, in some shape or form, he would not meet a natural end.

Sure wish that were true. I've seen plenty that didn't make it a third of the way to that.

Treasure the time you have, none of us know when it will end. Only a few will get a warning that it is close.

I'll still never understand the point of rioting and destroying your own neighborhood. Neither did he, as shown on the news. So there is something to be said for that.

I know that it showed a lot of folks something they had never seen or realized when he, the "victim" (of sorts), showed so much restraint and the rioters, who had received no harm at all, went haywire. It was a wake up call for some, unfortunately too few and the lesson didn't last long enough I fear.

Guess it's time to breakout the PR-24 and do a few moves and mutter "RK-RIP". Maybe a chant and a "Louisiana Take Down" drill to revive the issue of a true tool for LEOs.

He just seemed to me like a regular person with a very serious substance abuse problem. There sure are plenty of them out there and they stay in trouble.

Not very many get a multi-million dollar payday though.

I disagree with your description of regular people. The line that divides us is often very thin.

I'm not condoning his behavior, just not condemning the man for his weakness.

P.S. What kind of criminal record did he have other than DWI and such?

What kind of criminal record did he have other than DWI and such?Domestic battery, assault with a deadly weapon, second-degree robbery, and intent to commit great bodily injury (http://law2.umkc.edu/faculty/projects/ftrials/lapd/kingarrests.html). You know, just like everybody does...

Regards,
Happyguy :)No intention to disparage, HG. I'm just tired of so many folks accepting the media spin that this guy was a boy scout who got attacked by racist cops. But really, most "regular people" do not have repeated DWIs. One should be a life-changing wakeup call. Like Obama's daddy, King made drunk driving a way of life.

Rodney King had two passengers in his car that night. No one remembers their names, as they were cooperative, not an extremely resistive, violent subject who refused to comply. :smoking:

Not one person has or will ever claim he was a boy scout. However he will always be associated with the riots that ensued and during them he immediately went on television condemning the actions. He also publicly forgave the officers. Boy scout, no way. But there are far worse people in this world.

You're welcome to hold him in as high esteem as you like, but he was trash as far as I'm concerned.
