View Full Version : Any favorite loads AA#5 or 7 for 165gr.JHP 10mm?
Hi,
Just picked up a new Gen 4 20. My reloading supplier only has 165gr. JHP slugs in at the moment. I have AA # 5 and #7 that use for other calibers.
Anyone have some favorite loads for a 165gr. JHP in 10mm Starline brass using these powders?
Thanks!

AA7 is a good choice. AA5 is too fast for maximum velocity, but would work OK for "10mm Lite" loads.

Hey how much are the G20 4th gens going for in GA?

With my GSSF coupon I paid $491 at Ed's Safety + tax=$524
I know regular price at a LGS or even a gun show it would have been close to or over $600 probably. I only had one coupon, so I'll probably just trade in my G21SF later on to get a new Gen 4 21.
Really like the grip on the Gen 4s

This doesn't directly answer your question, but I love 9grs of Win Autocomp under a 165gr FMJ!
use with caution, Its a spicy meatball

I thought the gen 4 with no backstrap on it was basically a 20/21 SF :dunno:

My Gen 4 20 feels smaller grip wise than my Gen 3 21SF. It almost feels like a Gen 4 17 or 22 in my hands.
It may the same size as a SF,but I have better trigger reach and grip control than my Gen 3 SF, so something must be different.
Since no one has answered my question yet, I may go with 12gr. of AA#7 under the 165gr. I saw this load on the Accurate Arms thread.

I haven't used AA#7 with 165gr bullets, only AA#9 for my defense loads. With Speer Gold Dots, I load up 15.2gr of AA#9 which gives me about 1325 out of my G29. The perfect defense load.
The Accurate Arms posted data for AA#7 and 165gr bullet is: 10.8gr/1,148fps MIN 12.0gr/1,305fps MAX
Since 12gr is the suggested max, I'd start at around 11gr and work up to 12gr, watching for any signs of over pressure.

I'll probably put together a test batch tomorrow when I get back from the gun show. 20-30 rounds of the 11gr. loads and 10-15 of the 12gr. AA#7 loads and watch for bulges. Thanks for the input!
