Going to start looking for 1911s, i really Needi mean want one but i have a problem. Many 1911s ive tried seem to be zeroed for a 6 o clock hold. Kimber is the worst, seems like that shoots like inches high. I use a direct holdover (sight picture 3) so ill need to find a brand thats fixed are set for this or one with adjustable sights. Any suggestions?

I'll be honest. Kimber was my very first 1911 after getting back from overseas. I thought it was just me that had that issue.
I've shot 5 different Springfield's that had novack low profile sights and never had the issue.
So now, every 1911 I buy will need to have those sights. Unfortunately I can't bring myself to put them on my Lew Horton
Compact. I hate the standard sights on that pistol.

I think Novak and a couple others do offer that. You just have to dig.

i mean factory stock, out of the box and ready to rock.

OH. I would imagine that's more due to the fact that the alternate colors aren't that demanded.
Easier to stick a bunch of standard sights on their pistols. JMO.

The Taurus PT1911 comes stock with Novak three dot sights that are set up for hold over aim.

Don't have a clue how many of the fixed 1911 clone/variant sights are regulated these days, but original specs zeroed at 50 yards with standard hardball, which would work out to 2 inches high at 25, with the theory being that a soldier could expect to make hits on an enemy soldier from 10 feet out to the maximum range of 75 yards with a COM hold.

My dad picked up a new pt1911 in trade and it had Heine straight eights on it.

Because most people use adjustable sights for targeting shooting, and it's not good to have all sorts of color throwing off your sight alignment when you target shoot.

i find it way easier to aquire and focus on a front sight when its a fiber opric or dot sight.

For quick fire, yes, not for precision shooting. You don't focus on the dot for precision shooting, you focus on the top of the front sight. With all the colors and whatever, that makes it tough to single out that sliver of the front sight.

There's a reason why target sights are still all black even in the year 2012.
