I just ordered a box of silvertips form buds . I've heard good things about them , but couldn't find them locally. The only 10mm I have found locally are hornady 200gr (or 180?) , blazer , some CorBon that's like $50 a box for 20 , and HydraSlows.

I don't know if the box contains 20 or 50 rounds , it didn't specify ... Here's the link.

I also ordered some more UW's , but for some reason I wanted to test out the silvertips. Any of you guys know about the CorBon expensive stuff ? The hornady's were rated at only 1100fps so I passed.

I'm still UW all the way , but have been curious about the silvertips for a while due to good reviews I've seen.

20 rounds per box. Not a good deal, IMO. The "good" you've heard about Silvertips is probably 15 year old news. They were good, full power back then, not so much now. Only slightly warmer than .40 S&W, if at all, due to barrel lengths. If they were 50/box at that price, I'd buy a gross of them. Not for the rounds, but the components. Silvertip bullets are good, it's just hard to find a good (full power) commercial load that doesn't cost through the nose.

Underwoods is good ammo.

Silvertips velocity is way overrated. 1290fps isn't even close, more like 1150fps. That doesn't mean it's terrible, just don't expect much in terms of full power.

Not the hottest round but, better than some.

Actual speed is 1160...however, I reload several types of boolits and I do think the 175 Grain Silvertips have some value. What I do is buy the boolits in bulk from MIDWAY.

500 at a time. You can pump them up (with caution) to 1300+ if you desire. (reloading is so valuable)

I run them in case I come across some Werewolves....

Reloading them with new Starline Brass sure makes them pretty...

If you shoot. Your cutting yourself short by not reloading. And the 10mm is a wonderful play ground to be on.

I had a chance to fire about 200 rounds of Silvertip a couple weeks back for free!! They function great in G20 but seem overpriced compared with Underwoods offerings.

Silvertips don't function well in my 20SF for some reason. :dunno:

100% right on.

My re-loader has paid for itself 5 fold. Plus, after I have the components, I can sit down and crank out 50 rounds faster than I could get into town and buy them...lol.

Underwood has made any other ammo almost wasteful.

Although I've never used silver tips, as a component for my 10MM loads, shouldn't, because of their price, be called, gold tips?:faint: Just have to say, thank goodness for XTP's!

Frigg 'in Silvertips are good? Since when! If it weren't for their 9mm Silvertips the FBI might have dropped Michael Platt the first time he was hit and won the infamous 1986, 'Miami Gunfight'. If you like Winchester pistol ammo get yourself some, 'Ranger T-Series' or, 'PDX-1' ammunition, but not anemic Silvertips. (They're way too soft to do any real good.) :freak:

PS: If you want to buy smaller quantities of decent pistol ammo at a, 'good price' I suggest you look at, 'The Sportsman's Guide'.
