After much searching i finally purchased a TRP Champion about a year ago... It went to SACS immediately for a tool steel trigger job and 10-8 sights. Now im re-evaluating what i plan to do with this gun...

I want a bobtailed Champion... I never plan on selling... Should i just bob the TRP? Its already "modified" so why not take it a step further? Work would be done by SACS so it would be a "registered" upgrade....

Your thoughts...

I wouldn't do it, but I tend to look at things like that from a collector's standpoint.

I modified/customized two pretty rare 1911's. A RRA and an STI Legacy. I knew that I would never sell them. Ever. And just wanted more out of them. They are now two of my favorite 1911's that I own and I have made them "mine", so to speak. BTW, Chris Peters at Metaloy did all of the modifications as well as the hardchroming of both.

Thanks Brian. :) Here they are out on the deck, right before I drove over to Chris' shop and dropped them off.

You know, I didn't know they could do stuff other than hard chrome jobs. Great work!

I don't mean to hijack, but what did Metaloy do to those? Considering sending a P7 to them...

There is rare, and everything else.
You wouldn't bob a Singer.....

Since you have already modified your SA.
Do with it as you please.

I have a hard time thinking of anything from SA, Inc as "rare."
Just stuff they don't get many orders for.
Fix it up to suit yourself and let your grandchildren complain about the lack of originality.

Chris built guns for Wilson for 6 years. He's a hell of a smith, but has moved on to concentrating on finishing since he left Wilson. On the RRA I had him flush crown barrel, flush cut and recess the slide stop, replace front black sight with tritium sight and hardchrome. On the Legacy, I had him flush crown barrel, flush cut/recess slide stop, remove ambi and install Wilson single side safety, replace black front sight with Wilson fiber optic front sight, remove FLGR and replace with Wilson GI guide rod and spring cap, install and fit Wilson Speed Chute magwell/MSH and hardchrome.

I guess its hard to argue with that viewpoint.

I woundn't customize a Rand...unless it "needed" hardchrome. :whistling:

My thoughts are that the gun in question isn't really a "rare" gun. :dunno:

Rare, no. Scarce, yes.
Walk into 100 gun shops, bet you can't find of them.

Sweet shooters there.... You guys helped ease my decision to do the bob job :-)

Overseas for two more months... We'll see which TRP gets work done first

I'll do to my guns what I like, don't care about who is going to like it or not after I pass

Nice pistols. Metaloy did the hard chrome finish I believe.

Thanks. Not only did he hardchrome them both, he did the following to each...

"On the RRA I had him flush crown barrel, flush cut and recess the slide stop, replace front black sight with tritium sight and hardchrome. I don't understand why one would think a TRP is rare? Build it the way you want.

Unless you go SACS Custom Carry, a TRP is a TRP is a TRP. Period. No if, ands or buts.
