View Full Version : A Taurus M66B6 followed me home.
A Taurus M66B6 followed me home yesterday.
I was without a center fire revolver in my collection. I want just one for fun on the range that didn't break the bank.
A LGS was clearing out some models of Taurus handguns. The price was competitive to online dealers. The DA trigger pull was fine. No grittiness or nasty feeling. The bluing is deep and consistent. No evident assembly defects.
I made it through home, cleaned it up, inspected it, and dry-fire function checked it using snap-caps. I plan to get to the range this weekend.
Congrats. My experience with Taurus revolvers has been positive. I own a 7-shot SS Mdl 66. My dad owns a 6-shot SS 66.
I had one, 7 shot stainless 6", it was really a fun/good gun.
I will have another one someday.
Great gun. I have a M66 .357. Shoots flawlessly! Enjoy
Nice looking gun. Congratulations.
A Taurus-friendly thread! That full moon must have laid down hard on some people this week! :)
Nice revolver, by the way.
Congrats on the new toy. When the Taurus are good, they are really good. I have a 689 that I bought back in 1992 and a 607 back in 1995 or 96.
Nothing wrong with those guns, they actually take a decent trigger job too.
I just got back from the range. The M66 fit me like a glove, and felt just right. The only minor issue I have is with the sights. It's difficult to see the black front sight blade against a dark background. It's challenging. I like challenging because it pushes my skill limits.
In an earlier post, I stated that the M66's DA trigger pull didn't feel as smooth as a 686. It still doesn't, but that's not a bad thing. I realized that it's a Taurus trigger that can't be easily compared to others. The M66 just works, no issues.
Herters Select Brass Case 158gr. JHP's. The sticker dot is 2" in diameter. Distance to target 25 feet.
^ Double action trigger pull. The first one was a flyer. The rest as you see.
^ Placed a sticker on the empty ammo box. Single action trigger pull.
I'm real happy with the M66. My impression:
.357 Mag = FUN. FUN. FUN. The size of the M66 makes it pleasant to shoot. It sure as heck didn't beat up my hand like a .357 snubbie did.
.38 +P = A little kick. I had these left-over. I don't think there's a point in shooting them out of the M66.
.38 = Felt like getting a paw swat from a playful kitten. Very easy to shoot.
I'm on the fence about shooting .38's out of it because of mucking up the chambers. I think I'll keep my eye out for a similar barrel length Taurus revolver chambered in .38.
Don't worry about the .38s if you are willing to brush out the chambers regularly and stay ahead of it.
