Help me with a name.

Hey guys, I am opening a business here shortly. A FFL is in the future but not at the moment, I am still active duty witch sucks up most of my time up. I do the following:
Firearm restorations, Wood, metal ect. Duracoat mostly.
Build AR-15s customer pays for parts and picks up lowers from FFLs
Build Distance rifles
Build HK type guns. MP5s/ UMPand G36 conversions, ect
When I say Build I mean put together parts, not manufacture.
Any custom refinishing. Example: Wifes pink Walther .22 ect.
Supply ammo and gun parts.
Supply optics.
Supply gun accesories.

Ill be running this out of my house and at gun shows. I have a guy that is setting up my Business, tax Id, ect.
What do I call it??? I will not sell guns till I get out of the military.

I appreciate it in advance. I need Ideas for these types of firearms services. A name?

Get your real name in the dba.

I don't say I am going to Hunkydory Tackytickle Zombieslayers, Inc.; I say I am going down to Joe's place.

How about Joe's Legos. With a gun in the logo, of course.

01colt,

What kind of guns are you going to sell?

'Tactical'? Hunting? Match shooting? Cowboy style guns? All of them?

Are they all by order or will you have a stock for selling?

You might call your company:

"Universal Guns'.

Inhouse Guns (out of your house.)

'Corsair Guns'

'Timeless Guns' (for collectors)

'The Jolly Roger Shooting Irons'

'Doc Colt' if just Colts..

Or others like that.

And if you run a beer store next by you could call it "Bud and Wesson".

Lol, good stuff, but Im not going to fully be able to commit (FFL) till I get out of the military, deployments, long hours ect. FFL is in the future though. I hit 20 in Sept. With this economy Im not ready to give up the regular pay check quite yet, even with skinnys trying to kill me every year.

Knowledge and experience through personal use or formal training?

I personally would pick a specialty and then go from there. That way your known for something and then you can build off of that.

The gun stores around here are named after the people.

Whittaker guns
Frank miller and son

There's a guy here that has whatever license it takes to register an sbr and it's called "acme guns.". The guy said he chose acme because it'll be first in the phone book. I can't think of anything off the top of my head? I just thought I'd share.

Yeah it sounds like you already have a diverse service and supply offering with plans to expand - you need something that fits you now but does not become defunct as you grow
Avoid the cheesy like "Stocks-N-Things".

Firearms Specialties and Supplies
American Weapons Systems
Mid-America Firearms and services (or wherever you are located)
San Diego Arms (again location)
Sporting Arms and Accessories

Off the top of my head.

You like - discount me a Glock when you get there. I can help with graphics and branding plans - seriously!

I think I had an FFL for 21 of the 25 years I was on active duty. Every time I PCS'd, I'd open another gun shop. Lots of fun.

When it comes to naming your shop, you really want something that's easy for the people at wholesalers to look up in their computer. They have a lot of issues finding things like initials and uncommon words in their data base. I ran into one problem in CA... if my business wasn't named after me... I had to pay 3X as much for the business license.

One of my favorite things to do is name the shop after the street it's on, or the town you're in. Like "Squirrel Ridge Arsenal" or "Phoenix Guns". It kind of endears you to the locals. Or, in your case, you could use something quasi gun/military like "The Skunk Works", "Damage Incorporated", "The Depot".

Right now, 99% of my business is converting Saiga's & VEPRs, selling AR's and handguns and handguns and more handguns. Anyone who can drill & tap an SKS for a com-bloc side rail scope mount will be able to make money... especially if you advertise in the national gun rags like the Gun List & Shotgun News.

"shoulder thing that goes up" and "personal thunder" are awesome!!! I saw a shirt once that said, "this is where thunder comes from.". You could put that on the business cards.

Absolutely nothing with the word "Tactical" in it. There are so many, I have multiple duplicates of the same business name in my FFL file.....its a mess.

If you don't want your shipments stolen in transit, I would avoid anything that tips off the freight haulers that there are guns in the box. Make the name as short as possible. Remember, whatever you manufacture, you are required to engrave your business name, city and state on the gun. The longer the name, the more engraving you have to do....move to a city with a short name. Don't use your personal name in the business. If the business becomes successful, it will be worth something to sell it. It will be harder to sell Bob's Guns to a guy named John.

Bases on the description of your business you need the ffl before you start.

Refinishing firearms makes you a gunsmith and possibly a manufacturer based on atf definitions.
