View Full Version : Generation Differences With the G36?
I posted this as a question on an ongoing thread, and thought this might be a better place for it.
It is pretty easy to tell the differences between a Gen 1 G17 and a Gen 4 G17. How many generations have there been on the G36, and what are the differences?
Thanks

I believe the release of the G36 was 2004, as a Gen 3 weapon. So there are no other generations than Gen 3 style.
Thanks for the reply!

I believe you are in error. 1999 was when it was introduced IIRC. I got my G36 barely used in August 2002. It has a DBY prefix which, according to this thread http://www.glocktalk.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1287557&highlight=serial+numbers, indicates a production date before November 1999.

I'm not afraid to say I was wrong of my dates. You ARE correct.:wavey:
The early (dates unknown to me) G36 mag (followers) were problematic. I have had to swap them out on older mags, and then work fine with newer followers. My G36 dates from 2007 and is very reliable, and gets carried often. Cheers.
