Is there a SD gun, or short list of guns,
that have exhibited extreme reliability
("Mean time between failures") beyond all others?

Long term reliability and frequency of repair requires tens of thousands of rounds downrange, in monitored test samples. Of the very few guns which have been tested that intensively,two that stand out for extraordinarily high reliability are the Glock 17 and the Beretta 92.
