View Full Version : Anyone here carry a Colt Gold Cup?
If so, what is yourexperience with this gun as a carry piece?
The stock sights would seem to make it a bit awkward for carry.
Its one hell of a shooter though.
Is there any way to change out Elliason sights?
I bought one in 1984 and carried it as a deputy sheriff and in the 90's carried it as a bail bonds man, that was back before conceled carry, so it was more open carry,
great gun still own it and shoot it, wouldn't be afraid to carry it today.
Not now, but carried several at various times as a uniformed officer in the 1980s. Never a problem. Wish I had them back.
Carried one of mine off duty back in the '70s. The sharp corner of the rear sight cut my rib cage once. I slightly rounded the corners of the rear sight, changed the front from the undercut to a ramp type, and later had the GC hard chromed. No problems carrying it afterwards. It's still in the family, still works 100% ( with the original collet bushing no less ) and still looks like it did 30+ years ago due to the hard chrome finish. I had others, but that particular Gold Cup was, and remains, a pistol that was just put together right from the start. About 1980 I bought a lightweight Commander and carried that afterwards, just due to the lighter weight...
