I just picked up my first Gen 4 today. It is a G23. I really love the feel of this firearm. I know its not a wall piece but I feel like its to nice to shoot. I know thats what they are for but has anyone waited a while before taking it to the range? If so how long before you went and broke it in?

Thank you. I have had plenty Gen 3 Glocks (still own 2 of them) and shot them all right away. But for some reason I just cant bring myself to shoot this one. lol

Nope, I always seem find a place to pull over and shoot a few rounds on the side of the road somewhere before I even get it home.

Shoot the heck out of it. ASAP. I always shoot my new guns as soon as I can get a few hours of free time to hit a range. Sadly, I'm waiting until tuesday to get to the range to try out TWO new guns right now. A G30 and a Sig 2340...Fun fun coming up soon. I'll bring several other guns too. A couple co-workers are coming too, including a girl who has only been shooting once! She's gonna have some fun with some of my rifles and my Saiga 12.

Are we being Punked? Is this Candid Camera? I couldn't understand if anyone thinks any Glock, especially a run of the mill Glock, is too nice to shoot.

If so how long before you went and broke it in? Oh sure, it looks pretty, but can it shoot?

You are kidding... right?

Once I had to wait one whole day! The delay was unbearable but work came first. Then I shot the heck outta it. It's a Glock. Shoot it when ya wanna... or not, it is yours to do with whatcha want. Looky lou and fondle "Glock Perfection" or turn money into noise and holes in targets.

It's all good.

Did ya at least play with the various backstraps? Take a glamor shot or three of your virga intacta to post for posterity?

Let me carry it for you for a week. Between door frames, car doors, arms on chairs, the metal gun lockers in the jail and, hopefully, a tussle with some drunk where it gets ground into the concrete wall of a bar, you'll be ok with just shooting it.

Kind of like buying a hammer and not wanting to drive nails.

I've got several guns I don't shoot. I don't have any guns I won't shoot. There is a difference.

Having said that I can't imagine buying something as mundane as a Glock and not shooting it as soon as I got the opportunity.

The only guns that make me feel like that are blue & steel pistols and blue & wood long guns. I once bought a synthetic stock Savage because I thought the CZ 452 was to pretty to take in the woods. I later changed my mind and sold the Savage ( felt like a toy ) and bought the CZ. I don't own a gun that I wouldn't shoot if I was going to keep it.

Congratulations on your new pistol. Just shoot it before the warranty runs out.

Seriously? Like asked by bac. I knew an old boy about twenty years ago was given an SKS. It was given to him by a friend of mine who appreciated him keeping an eye on his property, during the off season, He too, thought it was too beautiful to shoot, and placed it on the wall.

Seriously though, when I buy a new Glock, usually, when I get home, and walk through the front door, in about 15 minutes, I'm walking out the back door with a box of ammo, and ear muffs, to see how well it goes bang!

Put a thousand rounds through it, soon! It will still be as beautiful as the day you met!

You will quickly get over the gun's immaculate finish and shoot it a lot. Good looks are not redeeming features as far as Glocks concerned, but their functional ugliness (fugliness) is appealing, especially after having shot 10,000 rounds without being cleaned.

They look the same after 1000's of rounds...

A decade down the road a vintage 2012 Glock 23 that is new in the box might be worth $25 or $50 more than the thousands of Glock 23s that look almost new in the box that have only had a few hundred rounds through them. And in turn those might be worth $50 more than the tens of thousands that were carried daily and have thousands of rounds through them. If a possible return of twenty cents a week for ten years is worth it, than by all means do not shoot it.

About two hours. Couldn't get home any faster or I'd've gotten a ticket.

My favorite gun dealer operates out of a store on his farm. The range is about 1 mile away. I usually go straight from the dealer to the range and try them out. Sometimes I step out back of his store where he has a private range and put a few rounds through them.

Congrats! I just bought a brand new Gen 4 G23, went right to the range and put 150 rounds through her. In less that a week, I have almost 500 flawless rounds through it! Shoot it, that's what it was designed for. It's not a 1 of 10 ever made.

I know that's what they are for but has anyone waited a while before taking it to the road? If so how long before you went for a ride and broke it in?:dunno:

I shot the snot out of my Gen 4 G22 the day I brought it home. It has all kinds of scratches in the polymer and the finish is pretty worn on it. It's only a few years old but I don't baby my guns.

They are for shooting and I shoot the heck out of mine! Get it to the range and have fun!
