The 71 yo guy had good shooting form. I would only question the last shot at the door. If the robbers were running away and no longer a threat, probably not a good idea.

Read the update (one of the robbers being interviewed); what's almost as pathetic as their robbery attempt is the whining one of them gave the interviewer. He details how they were there to steal and didn't expect anyone armed, but then goes on to complain that the old man shot him when he fell.

Sorry, but in my mind, the instant you came into a place with guns (working or not), you forfeit your right to a "fair fight". Anyone committing armed robbery deserved to die at the hands of their victims, no regrets, no remorse.

The 71 yo guy had good shooting form. I would only question the last shot at the door. If the robbers were running away and no longer a threat, probably not a good idea.
Disagree (but I'm not a lawyer); if the guy still had a gun in his hand, he is still a threat. He could be simply seeking cover to continue the robbery; the defender has absolutely no way to make that determination and it's not his job to do so. Until the perp stops moving or leaves line-of-sight, he continues to be a threat.

So if the thug has a gun when does the threat go away? A 9mm is deadly how many ft/yards away? That kind of thinking WILL get you killed! The threat is real and deadly until it is NOLONGER breathing!:steamed:

If, your are saying in your scenario that the guy had a gun in his hand, he is still a threat we have nothing to disagree about. Because, that is not my scenario. In what I wrote, the guy was running away with the gun and no longer a threat.

The good guy has to determine that. I could not see the bad guys once they were out the door.

One handed point shooting is not "good form" unless there is no alternative

The first shot was double handed. But, when he started to run he went to 1 hand. Maybe he didn't practice moving and shooting.

That's debatable, and I'm sure it's been debated to death a million times.

In real life, in most self defense situations you can't stand in one spot and shoot, and this was certainly one of those situations against two armed guys. When you're moving, holding your gun with both hands in front of your face restricts both your movement and your vision. It's great for the range, not so good in a close-range fight.

I think this guy did fantastic in that situation. It was a nice, aggressive response. Nothing's as fun as watching the change in a thug's attitude when one of their "victims" is running right at them, behind a few of his own bullets.

So when did the thug in the video drop/loose his gun? Funny he still had it and was still breathing! So the threat was still real and very much active! You go right ahead an turn your back on an armed thug. Enjoy your short life!

And if wishes were horses, beggars would ride.

Really sticks in your craw that your social inferiors get to defend themselves from deadly threats, doesn't it? Really spiking your blood pressure that the castle keeper doesn't get to point guns at whomever he pleases.

Try not to stroke out. We steroid-abusing bald guys still need the revenue you produce.

You think nobody running away from a gunfight has ever turned and fired a shot as they ran?

He was still a risk.

No.

And, and it really doesn't work to add 'what ifs' when we have the video and we can see what we can see, but we can not see what the good guy sees once the bad guys are out the door.

Now, if you have the courage, post a new thread with your scenario - make it complete as possible - and we can discuss it. I doubt you will do that because it is more important to you to snipe from the peanut gallery and you fear learning or being wrong - even on an anonymous forum.

It is time to put on your big boy pants now and behave like one.

Your post above is why I said you need to behave like a big boy.

A little boy thinks that he is the center of the world and think people should know where they work. An adult does not expect that on an internet forum. The adult knows that the content of their post speaks for itself. The post is valid/correct/good
based upon the content.

Big boy pants - give them a try.

It may not be over....... From the last page, including interview of robbers.

Though Henderson said he doesn't blame Williams for shooting, he takes exception with Williams shooting at him while he was down.

“I was down, and I'm not going to continue to shoot you,” he said.

This proposes a good question. If the threat is down and still in possession of a weapon, is that still considered an active threat?
