I usually carry a G23. As most of you know, that gives me 13 +1 rounds of 40. I was just curious as to how many rounds/mags others feel comfortable carrying and why.

Thanks everyone!

There is a sticky in the upper portion of the main Carry Issues page, Topics Discussed Frequently & GT Rules - Read here first. (http://glocktalk.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1395779)

G26 with 10+1. Almost always have a spare mag and all my mags outside of the G26's 10 rounder are G17 mags so another 16 rounds as I download my spares by 1 so they seat super easy (just in case I actually do wind up doing a speed reload with my life or others on the line - Sux but I'll sacrifice that 1 round in a high cap mag to make sure it goes right). 27rnds total.

How many rounds do you carry?

My normal practice is whatever is in the pistol. There are times when I'll carry a spare magazine but since I lead a staid and routine lifestyle I don't like to carry more devices or paraphernalia than necessary.

The best reason I've seen for carrying a spare mag for normal self-defense scenarios is the malfunction factor. I rigorously test my pistol/ammo choices for reliability whenever I go to the range for this reason, putting the pistol/ammo through several rapid fire exercises.

I know this isn't an absolute guarantee that my chosen pistol/ammo won't malfunction but the successive tests that bear out reliability do provide a measure of confidence for someone with my staid lifestyle.

The best results I've found to date is to select a pistol with a solid reputation for quality/reliability and stick with a major American ammo manufacturer.

13+1 in the G23. I understand the possibility of malfunctions, but I shoot regularly, and trust what I carry. If I'm ever in a situation, and cant get it done in 14 rounds, doubt 27, or even 40 would help me much more...

I like to carry an extra mag or 2, not so much because I might need all that ammo, but because it helps balance out the weight of the gun!

+1. As a civilian CCWer I've never seen much of a reason to carry a spare mag with a.40cal or bigger that held more than 10 rounds. But I sometimes do carry a spare mag but not very often.

When I carry my PF-9 I will carry a spare mag of 115gr JHPs but that's because I'm not a 9mm fan and do not have much faith in the stopping power of a 9mm especially in a pocket pistol.

In combat you can never have too much ammo as long as you can carry it!

Better off that way. Gives you a place to put the one in the chamber if you need to clear it out.

Anyway. I carry a 19 with 15+1. I almost never carry any additional magazines. If anything Ill bring the j frame as a back up if im in a questionable area. Sometimes ill only carry the j frame. Just depends what is going on and where im at and such.

Id say 95% of the time ill carry the 19 without anything else.

3 17 rounders in the car.

S&W M&P Shield: 8+1, and a spare 7 =16
Glcok 19: 15+1, spare 15 =31

I keep a Go-Bag locked in the truck with 3 G19 mags and 200 boxed rounds. That's also usually where a rifle is.

+infinity for the redundancy aspect of it much more so than the additional ammo.

Try carrying a spare mag for awhile. After awhile you will feel naked when you don't, just like you feel naked when not carrying a firearm. Next up on my list is a tactical light. I just have to figure out the best way to carry it consistently. I'm thinking of trying to stack it on top of my Safariland 123 horizontal mag pouch somehow.

Heh, with my NAA .22WMR, I usually pocket carry, and there's a little spare ammo compartment in the pocket holster, so I have five spare rounds there. Not that I have any illusions about them being useful. :D "Hold on a minute, while I disassemble and reload my revolver!"

Otherwise, depends on the gun:
G26 10+1 and 1 spare 10rd mag
KLCR 5 125gr .357mag and 5 rounds 125gr. .38 +P plus 1 rd .38 snake shot in a speed strip
P32 7+1 and 2 spare 7-rd magazines (they're so tiny!)

full gunload, and one spare. No matter what the pistol is. For wheelies, I carry one speedloader and one speed strip minimum. And I usually have a bug.

Early in my CHL experience I seated a magazine in my Glock only to have the baseplate, magazine spring, follower and all 17 rounds fall out the bottom of the still seated magazine. I will not carry without at least one additional magazine on my person. The magazine and the ammunition therein are the two greatest sources of weapon malfunctions.

This happened to me with my HK USP .40, and a aftermarket +2 baseplate. (I have since thrown away)

I was carrying with my Miami Classic. Winter time. My wife bumped me in the mall, instantly I have 15rd's of Ranger T's flying around inside my jacket.

Made it to a bathroom to put my mess back together. No more +2's for me on any pistol.

Were you using a +2 of any kind?

G23, with a spare G22 Mag. Two more G23 mags in the truck, along with some other stuff. Doubt I'd make it to the truck if I needed more than that. Usually carry a good knife, which has unlimited reloads, and VERY limited range. Not ideal, but not bad.

If I could conceal it, I'd carry my mossberg 500 and 200 rounds of ammo. Handguns are a compromise from the beginning. A 2 shot .22 LR Derringer is better than nothing most of the time. I do like to have a lot more than nothing though, and so that is where I landed on "comfortable".

Depends on the weapon in question and where I am going that day.

My 3 most carried guns and their intended roles.

Ruger LCP .380 pocket carry this gun at work where anything bigger is not an option. Capacity of 6+1 and I carry one 6 round reload. Carry ammo is 102 grain Golden Sabers.

HK USP 9mm I open carry this gun in Bianchi leather or a Fobus paddle depending on my plans that day. It comes along for 4 wheeler rides, camping trips, and is also my nightstand gun. Capacity of 15+1 and I generally carry one 15 round reload, however I have been known to carry two reloads. Carry ammo is 124 gr Hornady TAP.

Glock G20 10mm I open carry this gun in Bianchi leather. It is my woods carry gun and my faithful companion while bow hunting. (Yes thats legal in KY) Capacity of 15+1, I carry one 15 round reload. Carry ammo is 200 gr Double Tap JHP.
