I often wonder how quickly Congress would pass legislation for gun control if a barbaric act of terrorism resulting in massive loss of lives were inflicted upon them? Handguns are one thing, but automatic weapons that fire rapidly are another.

No civilian should be able to purchase the type of ARMY assault weapons Holmes bought legally. Looking at Holmes arsenal of weapons on TV I was struck by the ludicrous position the NRA has put innocent Americans in.

Senator Lautenberg you are right to go against the grain and protect Americans from needless mayhem and future massacres.

KUDOS to you Senator.

The NRA supports terrorism. All gun owners are terrorists even if they don't use them they are saying I have one so don't tread on me or I will use it.

Teabagggers love the power their guns provide. They don't seem to care about crimes against their fellow human beings. They are fed all kinds of propaganda about how it is their right to have their guns and the bigger the better. So be it. Unless they are affected by this type of sensless murder, they will never get it!

Has the Deer population really gotten THAT bad?

Cant wait to hear the explanations of why people NEED unlimited access to automatic assault weapons and tear gas. ( when they go to the corner store , are the confronted by divisions of attack squirrels). //// also trying to picture a survivalist holed up in the mountains trying to fend off a Pentagon onslaught.

Gun ownership must be licensed and regulated just like automobiles and driving. Both are made of metal, can be used very effectively, and can be quite lethal when misused.

Easy gun access + mental illness = a bad combination.

Rediculous how easy it is to legally get hands on assault rifles.

Let hunters hunt with weapons used to hunt. Tighten up the regs and procedures for legally obtaining these types of weapons. Then BAN access to weapons that have no useful purpose in society, like assault rifles.

For those 2nd Aendment freaks - remember, The Constitution specifies "a WELL-REGULATED militia."

Insecure people are afraid that others will hurt them, because they have no ability to protect themselves. Therefore, ban others, for my protection.

My opinion of gunphobia.

Private citizens living in the suburbs do NOT need assult rifles that can discharge 60 rounds a second unless they want to perforate and cut in half their neighbors houses...

When the constitution was written, we did not have assault rifles and guns with magazines that could kill dozens of people. The people that created the constitution, I am fairly certain, would not have written that people should be able to have, and use, assault rifles, AK70s, or guns with large magazines. Perhaps would should go back to the days when the constitution was written and allow guns for hunting and pistols with single bullets only?

NO ONE NEEDS AN ASSAULT WEAPON...THEY SHOULD BE BANNED FROM SELLING TO THE PUBLIC... If the NRA were really an organization that cared about gun safety and safe hunting they would use their vast lobbying ability to make it happen. What is with them?

Maybe if these gun dealers that supply these criminals with the weapons start to get booked for accesory, maybe we would see some changes.

What is this thing with guns?? Automatic weapons should be outlawed no one needs an automatic weapon to go hunting. So if an automatic weapon is bought to kill people then it is wrong. Why do we on the right have such an obsession for guns???

Why is it I now have to show my ID to VOTE than to buy a gun?

I also can't walk in and vote the same day as I can walk into a gun shop and walk out with a weapn.

While it's fun to pick on the stupidity, those posting such stuff are voters. I'm not 100% sure how it goes, but I think 67million gun owners didn't kill anyone yesterday...or Fri.

Wow. The stupidity of these quotes is outright painful.

Speaking of stupidity, I haven't seen any comments on the recent online rant by Jason Alexander (George from Seinfeld). One of the gems he shares is this: "What purpose does an AR-15 serve to a sportsman that a more standard hunting rifle does not serve? Let's see - does it fire more rounds without reload? Yes. Does it fire farther and more accurately? Yes. Does it accommodate a more lethal payload? Yes. So basically, the purpose of an assault style weapon is to kill more stuff, more fully, faster and from further away. To achieve maximum lethality."

I'm curious what his definition is of a "standard hunting rifle", that would lead him to this conclusion. He also makes the claim that, "100,000 Americans that die every year due to domestic gun violence". I'd really like to know where that figure comes from. Even including suicides, accidents, and justifiable homicides anywhere in the country (not just in domestic situations), that number appears to be a gross exaggeration.

His entire message can be found here. (http://www.twitlonger.com/show/if2nht)

I apologize if this has already been discussed here. It's just that few things annoy me more than actors/entertainers thinking that because they are famous, their opinion somehow matters more (or that their fame magically makes them qualified to authoritatively discuss matters outside of their expertise).

What makes their opinion matter, in their own mind, is their arrogant selfimportant delusion that intelligent people actually care about their opinion.

A lot of these folks have been propagandized to the max. And, the left has altered the definition of words so that 'semi-automatic' gets shortened to "automatic" and made equivalent to "machine gun" in most people's minds. Remember, if you can control definitions, then you can control the way that people think. And, if you can control the way people think, then you control those people. And, it's all done with words.

The real left--not the useful idiots--knows that gun prohibitions will not reduce crime, but that is not their goal anyway. They want to do things to the American people that would be too dangerous for them to attempt if we were armed. Never forget that, and things will become much more clear.
