Been reading a little about them and other than them being semi-collectible now :dunno:??? I've read they (because of stamping not forge/machining) they are somewhat less strong/reliable? I'm interested in Sigs somewhat, but asking you guys who know more about Sig Sauer than myself....

The P228 is, from what I've read, the predecessor to the P229. Most were made in W. Germany, & are LEO only now.... What's the scoop fellas? If you see one at a reasonable price would it even be worth owning since it's discontinued?

The P228 is one of the best guns SIG ever designed...Period. If you find one, pounce on it like a lion attacking an antelope. I love the P228, unforunately I don't own one. :crying:

They are plentiful, not even semi-collectible. Plenty of parts available. It is the most well balanced and best Sig pistol of all, imo. One is sitting next to me right at this moment.

I had one. They are a very nice gun. But I actually preferred the 2022 for my purposes so I let it go to someone who just "had to have it"

I picked up a Swiss Police trade-in a few years ago. It's beautiful handling weapon.

I love mine. I sometimes think about using it for a duty gun. Then I shoot my 1911 and pass. I am planning to get a .22 conversion unit this Christmas. They usually run a special during that time. Spare parts are still easy to be had, especially at Brownells. It would probably be the last gun I ever get rid of.

Thanks for the link. I've been debating between a P228 or a P229 with SRT. This is the answer; I'll be first in line.

Sig P228 Certified Pre-Owned pistols are out there... that's where I got mine.

There's a reason why it's also known as the M11.

A P228 with a stainless steel machined slide IS a freakin' P229.

What the heck is this M11A1 suppose to be if not a P229?

The P228 is a supremely reliable and durable pistol. However they need a bit more maintanance than your typical poly pistol. The frame rails must be kept well lubed with many of us using grease, the recoil spring must be changed every 3000 - 5000 rounds fired, and the breach block pins must be changed every 5000 rounds fired. Do that at a P228 will last a long long long time.

My P226s and P228 are my favorite pistols ever to shoot and IMO at the very top of the finest combat pistols ever made.

Mecgar makes really nice and fairly cheap 15 round flush fit magazines for the P228.

If you can find a nice P228 at a decent price I think you will be very happy with it. Really nice P228s are getting very pricy these days.

I saw one for $699 with 3 position tac rails... That must be a "recent" production?

My thoughts as well, but then I saw that it has the phosphate-coated internals like the Mk25, which I really like to shoot a lot, and would probably fare better for me as a carry weapon in the heat where I sweat a lot. That's a big reason why I prefer Glocks in the hotter weather.

A new M11 would be a welcome addition, though

I recently purchased a P228 CPO from Buds. Great handling pistol and feels really nice and balanced. That said, I can't rank it above my CZ P-01. Can't beat those CPO deals when you can find them.
