Citing data from the U.S. State Department, International Christian Concern says Christians have been arrested and held without charge, and conditions are deteriorating.

Please Pray for them...they are very brave and devoted.

Matthew 10:39, "Whoever finds their life will lose it, and whoever loses their life for my sake will find it."

Luke 12:4-8, "I tell you, my friends, do not be afraid of those who kill the body and after that can do no more. 5 But I will show you whom you should fear: Fear him who, after your body has been killed, has authority to throw you into hell. Yes, I tell you, fear him. 6 Are not five sparrows sold for two pennies? Yet not one of them is forgotten by God. 7 Indeed, the very hairs of your head are all numbered. Don’t be afraid; you are worth more than many sparrows.
8 “I tell you, whoever publicly acknowledges me before others, the Son of Man will also acknowledge before the angels of God."

Those of my faith know that should we live long enough, we will see these days for ourselves.

I pray they are given the strength to endure, and that their cells become a place of glory rather than darkness.

Acts 16:22-34, "The crowd joined in the attack against Paul and Silas, and the magistrates ordered them to be stripped and beaten with rods. 23 After they had been severely flogged, they were thrown into prison, and the jailer was commanded to guard them carefully. 24 When he received these orders, he put them in the inner cell and fastened their feet in the stocks.
25 About midnight Paul and Silas were praying and singing hymns to God, and the other prisoners were listening to them. 26 Suddenly there was such a violent earthquake that the foundations of the prison were shaken. At once all the prison doors flew open, and everyone’s chains came loose. 27 The jailer woke up, and when he saw the prison doors open, he drew his sword and was about to kill himself because he thought the prisoners had escaped. 28 But Paul shouted, “Don’t harm yourself! We are all here!”

29 The jailer called for lights, rushed in and fell trembling before Paul and Silas. 30 He then brought them out and asked, “Sirs, what must I do to be saved?”

31 They replied, “Believe in the Lord Jesus, and you will be saved —you and your household.” 32 Then they spoke the word of the Lord to him and to all the others in his house. 33 At that hour of the night the jailer took them and washed their wounds; then immediately he and all his household were baptized. 34 The jailer brought them into his house and set a meal before them; he was filled with joy because he had come to believe in God—he and his whole household."

So, when it is for the glory of God, even these things can be turned into a blessing.

My first thought was, where is the happening, so...

...
Eritrea occupies slightly more than 115,000 square miles along the Red Sea on the northern edge of Ethiopia.
...

But anyway, I think this is even worse then granting parole because someone found religion.

I think you are missing the point:

“Between 2,000 and 3,000 of them are Christians, imprisoned in inhumane conditions – without trial or charge – in detention centers where torture is rife,” CSI said. “Thousands of Eritreans flee every year, risking the government’s shoot-to-kill border policy in appalling bids for freedom.”

....

“Their goal is to get the Christians to renounce their faith,” Racho said.
The government, he said, is communist and doesn’t like competition.
“The communist officials are enraged to see millions of Eritreans worship God instead of worshiping communism,” Racho said

The conditions and torture are why it's worse.

I don't think coercing someone to renounce faith is any worse then coercing someone to claim faith.

Considering that both violate God's principles, you are right.

Joshua 24:15-16, " But if serving the Lord seems undesirable to you, then choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve, whether the gods your ancestors served beyond the Euphrates, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land you are living. But as for me and my household, we will serve the Lord.”
