I'd LIKE to believe that some sort of meaningful corner has been turned in regard to the collective American tolerance for "grown-ups" acting like screaming brats because the top scoop of their double-dip fell onto the pavement.

The author of the OP article does have some wonderful turns of phrases, such as this one:
