Looking at my Speer #13, shows a .38+P With Win.231 4.3-4.7 grns. This would require +P cases? I've heard there is no differance between +P and standard cases?

No difference.

There is no difference in 9mm +P cases but there is a big difference in 45 ACP. In 38 Special I find a slight difference in +P cases in most brands. Not a huge difference and it shouldn't matter as I've found modern 38 Special cases can be loaded very hot for 357 Magnum revolvers. Some brands there may be no difference at all. Sometimes the difference is in the hardness of the cases and while weight and volume may be the same, I nearly always get sight velocity differences in 38 Special +P cases.

When loading W-231 at +P levels it can get very touchy, especially with bullets heavier than 125 grains. Primer type and bullet seating depth have huge effects when using W-231.

I'm looking at 158gr LSWC, And a COL around 1.4 (aprox). The Speer is the only manual I have with a +P load for this bullet. My Lyman and other's show this load as a .357

.38 +P is brutal in anything other then a full size gun. Why you trying to do that to yourself?

38+P loads in Speer 13 are lighter than non+P loads from a few years ago. A 158LSWC at 900 fps is only brutal if you are French.

Sorry I was at work. Yeah, I'm running 4.0 grns. of 231 now for a target load. 4.3 -4.7 shouldn't be much. I have two revolvers. a 6" S&W 686 and a 2" SP101. I have shot 158gr. Buffalo Bore from the Ruger....that was fun. :whistling:

with my S&W Model 640 I'm getting a Avg. Vel of 808fps using 4.7grs. of W231 under a Speer 158gr LSWC-HP using Win cases and WolfSP primers. OAL is 1.465"

How does that shoot, tac driver? Are those standard cases?

I have loaded a lot of .38 Special with 158 gr SWC + 4.6 gr W231. Shot mostly in heavy frame guns and magnums but also in the Js.

Plus P .38 Special is not very hot in a modern gun like yours.

The brass doesn't really matter. Skeeter Skelton got famous with extra heavy loads in brass from factory wadcutters.
