Hello my fellow gter's

So I kinda want to treat myself to a new toy. Which one should I get? I am open to any other options too.

1) Factory new S&W 629 .44 mag 6" barrel. Latest version, has the dreaded lock. $625. I don't have a .44 mag revolver and the only .44 mag I have is a DE with both .44 mag and .50 AE barrels.

2) Colt 6920 $975. Already have a bushy M4 though.

3) Another 1911

4) Not a gun, but an SSAR slide fire stock for my bushmaster

I'm kinda leaning towards the 629 since I think it is the best deal of the above.

If it was me, I would get the S&W 629 44mag, that would add a very nice mag to you arsenal.

For the 629, how about a classic version with a 5" barrel for $30 more?

Me personally I got the slide fire. It's not an if but a when they are going to be banned. :whistling:

Colt 6920

Yeah, I'd get the 6920, and then sell a bunch of your "collection" to put the awesome stuff necessary on it.

Optics, rails, mags, ammo, light, sling, etc.

But then I'm bored with sidearms, and pretty much consider them useless as anything other than to CCW. I wouldn't buy a pistol at this point, as a rifle is just so much more interesting to me.

There's nothing more awesome than a fully kitted-out AR for me. Hell, I need to get a shotgun next, not a pistol.

Get an older 629. I'd never buy one with the stupid lock.

Colt, or other quality AR.

Don't like S&W revolvers with a lock. Out of your list I'd go for the Colt 6920.

I'd go for that S&W as the price seems less than I have seen them recently; however I agree with the thought of an earlier one without a lock, if I could find one close to that price.

$625 is a killer deal for a new 629, you will kick yourself for not getting it. The lock is an eyesore, but no big deal.

I second this. I won't buy another S&W with a lock, until they remove it (sounds like I'll be waiting a while). Get the 6920; the price is right, and it can only increase in value with the current political climate.

if it wasn't for the internal lock on the 629, that would be my pick.

since you already have an M4, why not get Ms. Kalashnikova?

Hmm.. I'd have to agree with the other people; Colt AR for sure. No knock on the other items you stated, but .44 Magnum ammo is getting high(!) dollar these days. Ditto .44 Spc. There's a benefit to have more than one firearm of the same caliber, than having more than one firearm of different caliber. Logistically speaking of course!

Since you asked for suggestions........If you don't have something in 22LR, that should be a prerequisite.

Good point, a Ruger 22/45 tricked out with Volquartsen internals should run under $500, a 10/22 with VQ parts and a decent scope shouldn't be much more.

Off topic, but I see GTDS on a few avatars......what does that mean?

thanks

Thanks for the opinions. Yup, got a yugo ak (yeah yeah, you can puke on this century arms build...BUT mine has been 100% reliable after over 1000 rounds). Also got my el cheapo stock 10/22. For me this is my exciting "Decision 2012", so many promising candidates!

Go with the Colt. (And don't add all that tacti-cool crap.)

Buy the Colt, sell the Bushmaster, and use the funds from the Bushy to get more mags, ammo and a GOOD optic for the Colt.

Me personally I got the slide fire. It's not an if but a when they are going to be banned. :whistling:

You realize that if the ATF comes down and says the slide fire stocks are full auto conversions, that you'll not be allowed to keep it, right?

Plus, why pay a few hundred bucks for something that does the same thing as a 5 cent rubber band?

AKRover

Buy them all. Lol

I've had a S&W 629 and I loved it but if I ever get another revolver it will be a Ruger Redhawk. The Ruger is a little strong than the 629 so it handles the hot rounds better. That being said, if I came across a 629 for $625 I would buy it in a heartbeat and never think twice about it. If my 629 didn't have a 8-3/8" barrel I would still be carrying it as my woods gun instead of my Glock 20. It was just too heavy to carry as often as I did.

The Colt 6920 pretty much has a cult following but isn't anything special IMO. It's just another AR that happens to say Colt. Once again, if I found the right deal on one I wouldn't pass it up but that's not something that I just have to have. $975 seems like an ok deal at best.

Slide fire stock is pretty cool and I want one for my AR.

No, you HAVE to add that stuff. My GOD nothing is more fun that having lights, VFGs w/battery storage, replacement pistol grips with battery storage, Eotechs/Aimpoints/ACOGs, slings.....all that stuff.

Honestly......just good, clean AR fan-boy fun.

Tacti-cool? Yeah, I can understand that perspective. But for HD/SD, stuff like a good optic & light are virtually mandatory.

Yeah, I'm an old fan-boy......I love that stuff.:supergrin:

I think I would wee myself if I could get my hands on an AN/PEQ-15:rofl::rofl:

I'd say find a nice vintage Colt or SW wheelgun without any stupid lock of any kind.

Okay fine, actually one of my dream guns is a colt python in decent shape. I don't want to shell out $2K for one though. Anyone here post a link where I can find one?
