Preferably out of a 2 inch barrel. I'm going to Alaska and want to make sure I'm safe from those zodiac bears.
You guys need to step your game up, I had to create a 9mm vs 45 thread AND a bear vs pocket gun thread. Jeez this sub-forum is slacking!

I read on the internet that most of the Alaskan guides carry OD green Ket-Tec P-32s with the Fiocchi 73 grain FMJ 'bear load'.

If all else fails and you are between the mama and her cub, put the barrel to the temple and pull the trigger. At least you will go painlessly.

Thank god the OP is not being serous. when i read this thread i coated my laptop in my drink :-D

. Why go with a .32 get a .25 or a .22. Youll be just fine! its a huge myth that bears require bullets to kill. you can actually do it with kindness :-D

I was glad to see that this was a joke, too.

Yeah, that's right, encourage him to do a thread about the .25ACP vs. bears.

Guys, the .32 acp is the only gun I can afford. Never mind the thousands I'm spending on the trip up to alaska, I can't afford to fork over some more cash for a .44 magnum or up.

What .32 acp +P+ load would match the .44 magnum?

What if the bears have really thick fur?

Buffalo Bore has a hardcast 75gr FN that makes ~950fps from a 2.5 inch barrel. You could probably just email them and ask them to double or quadruple charge the case with powder... which we all know should double or quadruple your velocity. That should give an honest 3800fps from your 2.5 inch barreled pocket pistol. Which will give you a power factor of 285. Which is totally on par with a full power 44 Magnum load pushing a 240-grain bullet to 1,200 fps, for a 288 PF.

And since it's a hardcast bullet, no need to worry about fur or anything clogging your HP. :whistling:

Well all I'm using is a hi-point. I heard they can't hanlde +p n stuff. Is there anyway I can get a loading with that kind of power factor, but without the extra pressure?

Bi-polar bears? You got to load your .32's with Lithium batteries.

Shoot 'em with that! Guaranteed to kill or cure!:tongueout:

I have the answer that you are looking for, man.

It's simple really. You wanna "economize" and "man-up", but you don't have the cash for an appropriate caliber like the .44 Mag or better, yes?

It's easy. Just buy, or better yet "borrow" from a friend who reloads, a few .44 Magnum bullets and manually insert them into the bear during the "encounter". Now that's how real men do it!

The 32acp is just to big and heavy to pack around in the out back, and has way to much recoil, really scares me.

So when I am in big bruin country, I carry this !

Tremendous "knock down power" ! I really suggest you use this on bear ! Make sure you use the 22MAG FMJ loads. Drops them in their tracks... DRT ! :whistling:

I think your choice of caliber is just fine. I do, however, recommend filing the front sight off.

That way it won't hurt so much when the bear shoves it up your keister. :wow:

Why all the overkill with the .32acp? I can load you some .25acp with a spitzer bullet that do an honest 4,000fps from a 2.5" barrel. They are the most accurate loading in .25acp that I have ever shot in my pistol, and they penetrate 100 milk jugs in my testing. That is after they fragment in the first jug. I get sub moa groups at 2,000 yards. In fact, the Navy Seals have asked me to provide them with ammo. They have told me in super-secret meetings that they prefer my .25acp over a .50bmg. In fact, they practice with them by shooting zodiac bears in Alaska.

For armored zodiac bears, I have a hard cast bullet that can penetrate level 12300 body armor. For bipolar bears you will have to invest in a .380acp. You are kidding yourself if you think a .25acp or .32acp are enough pistol for bipolar bears!

Really? Better then the 240 grain, silver tip, gold dot, xtp, spire points?:faint: I know they only make it to 25 FPS, but, its all, about shot placement!

As long as they don't wear 4 layers of denim or carry water jugs filled with chewed phonebooks, you'll be OK.

Rick305

For a bear I'd use hornady cd / keltec p32 combo ..

I wouldn't use FMJ's or other hollow points ... you don't want too much over penetration the .32acp is possibly replacing AR's in our military.

Keeping your .32 well lubed is more important than your choice of gun or ammo. It'll be less painful when the bear shoves it up your butt.
