I thought Newsweek was a member of the leftwing MSM. Maybe their falling subscriptions and ad revenues are starting to hurt in their pocketbook/bottomline and "Spread the Wealth" isn't such a great idea after all. :tongueout::rofl::supergrin:

It looks as if the mainstream leftist news media may be turning on Barack Obama.

They did the same thing to Jimmy Carter at this point in his presidency.

They criticized Carter's handling of the economy mess and even
made fun of his so called "misery index".

Seems as if the winds are shifting, and the media trollops are blowing with it.

Well, I'll be damned!

Never thought I'd see something like that happening.......

I haven't read the article, but this front page is some of the best news I've gotten from the MSM lately.

You know what they say about the pendulum.......I hope this means it has reached the end of it's swing, and is now headed in the other direction...........

"The article is written by Niall Ferguson, a British historian and economist that backed John McCain in 2008." I do not disagree with what he writes. But that he write such as he does is not surprise. It is a surprise that a typically left-wing publication would publish his opinion piece.

Maybe a poll showed them that Republicans buy more magazines?

It seems like the pendulum.

I think it's just about money: they "print" just ahead of the swing in sentimental majority to sell magazines. With so many LCD screens these days, it's hard to sell magazines.

It does kind of give you the feeling this might be some sort of trick.......and, it might be.

Others here have said it's for the money........could be.

Let's see how it plays out........I'm hoping it's a turning point for the MSM. If that's so, then once the rats start jumping ship, a whole sxxtload of rats are going to follow! These people aren't creative thinkers.......they are followers.......and, they take their cue from whatever they think might be the "doctrine" of the moment........and, I see some changes a-comin!......

Howdy Happyguy.......

If you search Bing for Newsweek Liberal Bias, you'll find quite a few people who disagree with your assessment.......

From what I gather, Newsweek might not be the rabid-liberal MSM that a few other outlets are, but certainly not favorable to conservative points of view.......

I was just thinking Newsweek was far left of the left wing media. I also think referring to big media as mainstream is a mistake. It makes them sound somewhat legitimate.

There's Hopeful Goalie and Cynical Goalie:

Hopeful Goalie thinks this is a sign of a full-blown preference cascade that is set to peak right around November. In 2008 it was cool to support Obama. Now that the seas haven't receded and the US is in many objective ways worse off than it was four years ago, a few people have piped up that Obama really isn't that cool. Other people have followed suit...some out of principled opposition, and some because their original support was only grounded in peer pressure anyway. If this is the case, big parts of Obama's 2008 base could actually desert him on election day.

Cynical Goalie thinks Newsweek management didn't see a lot of long-term future in serving the rabid Left and is trying to inch its way toward becoming a perceived middle-of-the-road publication.

There will be a number of folks within the Democratic party who will agree with the author of that article. As I'm sure will most of the Newsweek staff. However, they will have a completely different reason for agreeing. For the hard core progressive, socialist, Marxist, communist, the current president, who was once hailed as the most liberal senator in 2007, has not gone far enough to the left in their view.

Paul Krugman Gives Up (http://www.americanthinker.com/2010/08/paul_krugman_gives_up_1.html)
By July, Krugman had lost his "Battle of the Blog." On July 23 [2010], Latrina commented, "Who is this Sean from Florida? He takes everything that [the] Professor [says] and shreds it, piece by piece. He shouldn't be allowed to post his comments on this blog since he seems to be winning all the debates. We progressives need to stick together and embellish our talking points without someone from the outside pointing out fallacies in our ideology."
