Arrived at the range about 8:25 and received my stickers. Ms. Pat didn't shoot. We had to wait for the RO briefing to take place @ 0900.
Sign ins started about 0945. Finished the match right at 1100am. That was the fastest turn around I have ever seen at MCRC.
My shooting times suffered but we had fun! Didn't see any lunch vendors this year. Registration was going well and Scott was smoking his cigar as we left.

I did help the 'M" stage squad and guided a little effort toward getting that first shooter started.

Tommy seems to have some good help this year. Hope so, Erin said they are starting off with about 280 preregistered.

For lunch we stopped at the Subway near the intersection of Fish Hatchery Rd & I-77. Best sandwiches I have eaten at a Subway in a very long time.

The RO meeting probably should have been completed earlier but really smooth when we got rolling. Looked as if a BBQ guy was setting up at the top of the hill around noon. A good match to keep going and it appeared that everyone was having a good time. I'll try to shoot better next year. :fishing:

Unofficially I heard we ran about 250+ people today. We are expecting around 400 for the whole match. It was a beautiful day. The morning was pretty slow. A lot of down time waiting on shooters to arrive. I personally was the scorekeeper at Glock the Plates in bay 2.

I heard that a GlockTalk member met my wife over in Bay 3 at the plates. Haha. She said he was asking "Is CarbonFly here?" and she perked up saying "That's my husband!"...good times.

We really need more volunteers tomorrow. We were not planning on working tomorrow but I think after we shoot we will stay to help out some more. Everyone was very nice. But that's usually how it is when everyone has a gun on their hip. :P

Arrived @ 0930.
Departed @ 1630.
Erin on Stats.
Scott G. & Mark R. on Range.
All helpful and efficient as always.

LOTS of bays.
Still, shooting was pretty slow ... one shooter at a time despite two arrays in some bays.

Everyone was very polite. Lots of help.
Temp 87. 2 water jugs on range.

Vendors:
Lawmen's from Raleigh,
Ed's from GA,

and my personal fav...

CRAIG's from Knoxville, TN.(Regards to Bill K.)

Several of my heros were there:
1. David Knight and his Dad - two of the finest people I know.
2. Mike Ross
Mike was helping with the stages and a couple new shooters to GSSF.
(Mike should take his show to Vegas!)
3. Kevin H. from Beckley.

Made some new friends.

Had a lot of fun!

Good Luck to everyone!

Yea. In the double array bays the shot timers were picking up each other's shooters. I think they eventually got the sensitivity right and were able to run 2 at a time.

Alas, two years in a row and no Columbia for me. Last year the threat of the storms kept me from making the trip; so, I shot a local IDPA match.

This year, an auto repair has me grounded; so, not even the local IDPA match.

I really wanted to come over there and shoot Guardian and Heavy Metal. Oh well.

I got there early , the range briefing ran a little long but it was needed . I answered questions for RO's at all 3 stages I shot . There was confusion over major sub score sheets and signing up and walking away and coming back and shooting . I look forward to Conyers next

I was there today along with my dad- this was his first match. We arrived around 130 and made the mistake of waiting at the first 5tG bay on the way up the hill. Everyone else was shooting that stage as their last so we waited there until a little after 4. We were the last 2 shooters there and by the time we got up the hill we were the last 2 shooters at plates and M.

We left about 530 with the ROs leaving right behind us. Apologies to the ROs that had to wait on us to finish.

However, on my dads last string of the plates his new G19 gen 4 suddenly came apart. The gun has about 300 rounds after completing most of the match. The takedown lever came out and it looks like the spring broke. However the backplate also was sheared on one corner. The official armorer had left but some ROs who were armorers took a look. In case they check in we found the issue. The polymer frame was not fully machined at the rear so it did not clear the backplate but instead broke it. I assume the stress due to the incorrect machining caused the takedown spring to break as well. I'll try to get some pictures and start a thread if anyone is interested, but I won't derail this anymore.

I missed plates for the first time so I'm pretty disappointed in my performance.

Today was my second GSSF match ever. I improved my overall score 100 seconds from my first match in Charelston, SC. I have a long way still to go before making it to the top but am enjoying ever match!

Shot first thing this morning (Sat). As stated above it took a while to get going with my first round going down range around 0945. But it went fast and smooth once it got going. The weather was perfect; for SC in August!!

Thanks to the RO's and the GSSF staff.

I would be interested in pictures. Maybe you could post them in the Gunsmithing section...

It was a beautiful day. Hot, but not too bad and some breeze all day made it very pleasant. Thanks to all who stopped by the Ed's Public Safety tent to visit.

I'm headed back out to the range, more photos to come.

What more could you ask for....outstanding weather, 80 degrees when we finished at 1130. Fast and efficient ROs/asst at all stations I shot. I noticed lots of young folks assisting at the stations and think that is awesome...they are the future of the sport...keep it up parents By far the best weather and execution in the history of GSSF at Mid-Carolina Rifle Club. My hat is off to all that volunteered their time to make it possible. OBTY had a PB on the plates...all is good. If ya passed on this match ya missed out!

This was my first time at a match of any kind and I really enjoyed it. I look forward to future matches and trying this in cooler weather. ( I shouldn't have worn jeans, shorts would have been much better)

Thanks to all!

Try our match in Summerville, SC in mid Oct this year, much cooler usually. We had frost last year. Charleston Challenge 2.

Seredipity strikes...

I was visiting family when my friend and past GSSF/IDPA match travel buddy,Mr. Glock FL called and wondered if I was going to Columbia? What...a match in Columbia...when? Mike says 25th and 26th, want a ride?

I have been avoiding travelling for matches due to money and job obligations. Last few years I have worked and shot the Orlando match as my only GSSF match of the year.

I told Mike I would pass on the ride but I would see him on Saturday at the match. As I mentioned earlier I was visiting family...in West Columbia, SC...10 miles from the range!

I always tend to keep a Glock or two with me when I travel and 200 to 300 rounds in a range bag with the kit necessary to protect eyes and ears for three. Never know when a shooting opportunity might show up. :)

I got there at about 0930 and signed in as a walkup and was #341/342 for my two categories. As luck would have it my lack of practice left me with two scores in excess of 100. My hope is for the random awards. :)

I enjoyed the match but got hit with a delay. Mother nature called with six score sheets in front of me on the 5 to Glock. That was a long hike to the restroom by the "sign in" shack down and back up the hill. When I got back there was ten score sheets in front of me. Oh well.

As a side note...I am a bit heavy and wide of girth. I sat down on one of the white plastic drums in the area where the 5 to Glock was set up against the covered firing line. I flattened it with nothing but a loss of dignity.

I mentioned it to one of the RO's there who said no problem. I will remember GSSF Columbia always as a place where I completely crushed the competition, though not in shooting. :)
