Just picked up a 1948 M44, The wood is a little worn but everything else seems to be in great shape! There's still a little cosmoline packed in some nooks and crannys but I can't wait to get out and shoot this bad boy.

I decided I needed the M44 to pair up with the 880 rounds I have for my PSL. Amazon had a stock extension and 10 stripper clips for like 12$and change, so it's in the mail. If anyone recognizes the stamped markings feel free to fill me in.

CONGRATS!!!

I have one too, as well as an M38, and two 880-round wood crates of ammo. Haven't shot them yet but hopefully that will change in the very near future!

Enjoy your new Mosin!

almost afraid to ask, but...what have they gotten up to these days?

as for the markings, the crest on the barrel shank idendtifies her as a romanian rifle.

I paid 180 for a ftf deal.
Does the barrel stamp saying russian mean it's part of the name/ model then?

I have one too... cool little bang stick for sure! The fold out bayonet is great for a quick gun rack. Just stab it into the ground to keep the gun off the deck.

I have a M38 and 91/30 I re-snipered with one of those repo Russian scopes they made on the original equipment in Russia awhile back.

I have the stock extension on my M38 and it is defiantly a plus if you have NATO length arms. :whistling:

I miss my 38, was a nice little gun, and the stock was dang pretty after I re-finished it.

Nice gun! I bought mine right about when they first hit the market. It's cheap to shoot and surprisingly accurate for what it is.

Don't get me wrong, your not going to shoot MOA with it but man size targets at 400 meters is more than doable with that rifle.

Prepare yourself for one heck of a muzzle blast. Now don't say I didn't warn you!

It's a Russian, made in Russia, unless you post a better pic of the receiver(top), to prove me wrong.

Looks good!!!

It's a Soviet Izhevsk M44. It has the Soviet crest with the hammer and sickle. 1948 was the last year of production and it doesn't look like it's been refurbed.

It can't be Romanian because production began in 1953 and ended in 1955.
