Can someone verify my start loads for a 10mm.

The gun is a S&W 1006

165 Gr FMJ
7.4 Gr Unique to start on testing batch.

7.6 Gr Unique for next testing batch.

I just want to make sure after only finding two sources.

Thanks guys.

My Lyman 49 manual shows 165gr. tmj loadings with Unique to start at 6.5gr. and max out at 7.3gr.

You should be fine Alliant lists 8.3gr of Unique under a Speer 165gr Gold Dot as a Max load in the 10mm. This charge reduced by 10% gives you just under 7.5gr for a starting load at a oal length of 1.255".

I don't load the 10mm but use 6.5gr of Unique under a 165gr. FMJ bullet in 40 s&w with no problem and not near max.

It is my experience that Lyman's manual is somewhat conservative for the forty not sure of the 10.

I only checked a couple of manuals, but it looks like you are starting high and going higher. I would back off those loads. Move over to the GT 10mm reloading subforum (http://glocktalk.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=67) and hunt around for some safe load ideas.

I would start @ 7gr & work up in 1/10gr increments, 10rds max each. Alliant goes to 8.3gr, but bullets are not plug & play. Are you sure it's FMJ & not plated? Plated, you are going to be maxing out closer to that 7.6gr.

Fred, yes its FMJ, I'll start at 7 grs and work my way up.

This is the S&W 1006, it was built for the 10mm so it can handle hot loads. Not that I want to go that high.:wow:

Guys, as always y'all offer valuable info, thanks!!!

Went to the range with the following:
165 FMJ and Unique.
6.9 gr
7.1 gr
7.3 gr
7.4 gr
7.6 gr

All preformed well with 7.6 giving a little better group.

Thanks guys!

I love my 1006, beast of a gun, far better suited to full power 10mm than the Delta Colts IMO. FWIW, you are never going to get the best out of the 10mm using Unique. I love Unique, but it's a med burner for midrange loads in most calibers. Move to something a bit slower for higher vel loads instead of pushing Unique. Longshot is my current fav 10mm full power choice. BLueDot, PowerPistol & A#9 also work, but Longshot is my current fav.

I'll go get some Longshot or PP and give it a try, thanks Fred.
I just bought this 1006, never been fired and no scratches looks bran new for an almost 20 year old pistol. It feels good to shoot one again. Brigs back memories of my old 1006 from the early 90s. I would hot load that one all the time. However, that was the old me, now I'll work up some hot loads for hunting and the occasional showing off:whistling:.
